Luck appears to have been a lady for screenwriter Billy Ray. Not only did he land a great gig adapting Suzanne Collins' 'The Hunger Games' for the big screen, a film that made more than a little bit of money, but now he's been tapped to write for a living cinematic legend. Ray has just been tasked with writing Martin Scorsese's biopic on the iconic crooner Frank Sinatra. The project has been at Universal, with Scorsese attached, for some time, but the hiring of Billy Ray constitutes the first major move toward production in quite a while. A member of the famed Rat Pack, Sinatra was a singer, an actor, and a renowned romancer of some of the era's most beautiful women. Ray has also been attached to 'The Thin Man' remake as well as a secret J.J. Abrams project. No word yet on when this Pal Joey movie is slated to start shooting.

I can think of no better director to take on Frank Sinatra's life story than Martin Scorsese. Not only does he have a masterful understanding of Italian culture, but like Ol' Blue Eyes himself, Scorsese has a deep, abiding love for the city of New York. There have always been rumors that Frank Sinatra owed much of his early career to the mob, and it'll be interesting to see how Scorsese, arguably the king of organized crime films, handles this aspect of Sinatra's life. My only concern with Scorsese directing this film, and this is a byproduct of his work of late, is that he will try to cast Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role. Fine actor though he is, he could not be more wrong for the part of Sinatra. I will say I'm a bit nervous about Billy Ray getting the job here. The best picture with which he has so far been associated was an adaptation and I worry that the myriad projects he has lined up means that we won't even see a script for the Sinatra biopic for a long time.

What do you guys think? Are you excited about the prospect of a Scorsese-directed Sinatra biopic? Is Ray the right choice for screenwriter?

I don't think he is racist, but he is a prick who thinks its cool to insert the N word in movies he doesn't need to...

Harry Connick Jr. hasn't proved his acting chops but he absolutley looks the part and without question has the singing capabilities.

My only question for any biopic is: Will this be better than Ray?

I've got the perfect casting choice

@Joe Magaletta Not bad. Better than Leo.

Nice writer. But DiCaprio as Ol' Blue Eyes? Ehhhhh, not feeling it. I'd prefer something along the lines of Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash and Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles: look the part AND sing the part. Of course, that'd be pretty hard for Sinatra.

It will be great depending on who's playing Sinatra....and PLEASE don't let him sing.

Finally some movement has been made! Sinatra is one of the all time greats and I still listen to him every day. I can think of no one but Scorsese that I would trust this project to.

@Sammy Ryd Just dub the singing if he can't
