And now for something completely different...and thoroughly awesome. Several members, possibly all remaining members, of the legendary Monty Python comedy troupe are reteaming for a new science-fiction farce called 'Absolutely Everything,' which will combine CGI with live-action elements. The film is about a group of extraterrestrials who bestow upon one lucky Earthling the power to do, well, absolutely everything just to see if/how he'll screw it up. The Monty Python crew will be voicing these aliens. The film is set to be directed by original Python member Terry Jones from a script written by he and Gavin Scott. Jones was adamant that this would not be a Monty Python movie, but that it would have that same sensibility. So far, four of the five members are signed on, as the producers attempt to sign the only holdout, Eric Idle, to the project. The other major character in the film will be a talking dog named Dennis who is apparently more on-the-ball than any of the others; the part to be voiced by Robin Williams. The plan is to begin shooting 'Absolutely Everything' in the spring.
You can go ahead and assign me to the Ministry of Excited Fanboys, because this is tremendous news. All remaining living members of Monty Python in a movie together? Hell, these guys haven't even appeared publicly together since 1998's Aspen Comedy Festival when they appeared on stage alongside an urn said to contain the ashes of late member Graham Chapman. I know Terry Jones has stated this will not necessarily be a "Monty Python movie," but then he mentions that it will have those same sensibilities. The thing is, the sensibilities of the previous films, as well as the TV series, is exactly what we love about Monty Python. I'm not sure what further delineation Jones is trying to create between 'Absolutely Everything' and other Python fare. I truly hope the filmmakers are able to sign Eric Idle as well. The film would simply not be complete without him.
Any Python fans out there? Are you as thrilled about this project as I am or do you have your doubts?

Maybe they're trying to distance this from actual Monty Python stuff out of respect for Graham Chapman? Sort of a "fallen comrade" kind of thing? I know they've done projects since his death but perhaps they just don't want people to get all excited to see a new Python film, only to find out that it's just a funny sci-fi film. Sort of a hype-reduction tactic.
Plus, they had me until Robin Williams. Am I the only one who's a bit tired of his schtick? I can't remember the last time he was in something that I really, really thought he was funny in. Just a lot of the same voices.
