Yes, a man who was never nominated for an Oscar despite a career spanning over thirty years is finally going to get one.
Some of you might be asking
Who is Roger Corman and why should I care? Well, douchebags,
Roger Corman is a famed film producer, director and writer... of cheap exploitation flicks. Whether it be the original
Little Shop of Horrors or the popular
Carnosaur franchise, Corman has been behind some of the most beautifully cheap films for the past three generations.
Despite this, Corman has been responsible for giving future great filmmakers their start. You like those
Godfather pictures? Well you probably wouldn't have them if Mr. Corman hadn't given
Francis Ford Coppola the chance to direct the low budget horror flick
Dementia 13. Did
Goodfellas give you great insight into the world of the mob? Then thank Corman for getting
Scorsese's career started with the Depression era exploitation flick
Boxcar Bertha. Those are just two in a huge list of directors and actors that should and have thanked Corman for getting their careers off the ground.
So, go see a few of Mr. Corman's flicks. They might be the farthest thing from Oscar worthy, but they usually make up for it in charm... or at least some of them do.
