Roger Corman to Recieve Honorary Academy Award

Source: /Film

Yes, a man who was never nominated for an Oscar despite a career spanning over thirty years is finally going to get one.

Some of you might be asking Who is Roger Corman and why should I care? Well, douchebags, Roger Corman is a famed film producer, director and writer... of cheap exploitation flicks. Whether it be the original Little Shop of Horrors or the popular Carnosaur franchise, Corman has been behind some of the most beautifully cheap films for the past three generations.

Despite this, Corman has been responsible for giving future great filmmakers their start. You like those Godfather pictures? Well you probably wouldn't have them if Mr. Corman hadn't given Francis Ford Coppola the chance to direct the low budget horror flick Dementia 13. Did Goodfellas give you great insight into the world of the mob? Then thank Corman for getting Scorsese's career started with the Depression era exploitation flick Boxcar Bertha. Those are just two in a huge list of directors and actors that should and have thanked Corman for getting their careers off the ground.

So, go see a few of Mr. Corman's flicks. They might be the farthest thing from Oscar worthy, but they usually make up for it in charm... or at least some of them do.

Hey, Corman directed some good movies. Pit and Pendulum, The Raven, and Premature Burial were pretty cool horror movies. A Bucket of Blood is one of my all-time favorite horror comedies. It should also be worth noting he directed The Trip, written by Jack Nicholson, that was basically Peter Fonda freaking out on acid, literally.

If not for his direction, than Corman definitely deserves the Oscar for being a producer. The guy has produced over 300 movies and the majority of them made bank.

But no, it's awesome. We'll get clips from The Terror Oscar night, a movie made in two days on sets left over from the Raven!

Why the language? 'Douchebags'?

So... this guy directed bad movies and jump-started people's careers with them as well?

I don't see why a man who can't make a good film deserves an Oscar, despite whose career he helped.

While the oscars are bullshit in my opinion it is great to see him get such recognition.
