Last week, there was a rumor buzzing around the web that Robert Pattinson ('Twilight') would be playing Finnick in Francis Lawrence's 'Catching Fire;' the next film in 'The Hunger Games' franchise. Finnick is the handsome former tribute with whom Katniss crosses paths in the second book. This news surprised, and angered, a lot of people, but evidently few people were as taken aback by this news as was Pattinson. He apparently heard the rumor online just like we did and, having no knowledge of any deal on the table, called his agent to clarify. Here's how Pattinson described the exchange during an interview with USA Today...
"My agent was like, 'No.' No one's going to offer you that part. I was like, thanks for the reassurance."
Having not read the books, I can't speak to Pattinson's appropriateness for the role. Granted, I think 'The Twilight Saga' turned a lot of people off to him, I can't say I wasn't in that camp as well, but I've come to understand that no one could shine given that dreadful material so I've cut the guy a little slack. I am waiting to see what he does in David Cronenberg's 'Cosmopolis' before I make any concrete determinations about his skills. That being said, the uproar by fans of the books his potential casting caused, coupled with his own agent's reaction, leads me to believe that indeed Pattinson would have been a miscast. I'm happy to see the guy at least has a sense of humor about it. So now the question I offer to you, Spillios, is who do you think should play Finnick?

I liked 'Remeber Me', I thought he was great in that.
Comment by sean reilly on May 29, 2012 at 11:30am Robert Pattinson needs more life in his acting abilities rather than just standing there pouting and being all moody. Kristen Stewart needs to stop having seizures every time she says her lines and Taylor Lautner, well..........let's just say he needs a new outlet.
Comment by Constable Bryce on May 29, 2012 at 10:01am @Luke Hero~ Actually Stewart can act decently as well. I've seen her in a few films(Welcome to the Rileys, The Runaways and Speak) where she's pretty decent.
Comment by Luke Hero on May 29, 2012 at 8:53am Robert Pattinson can act, he just took an easy job & it has effected his career in a very negative way....What's funny is that it's really kristen stewart that is the punk that can't act
Comment by Hogwarts Dropout on May 29, 2012 at 8:21am @ Fatality - You're right. I just remember reading an article in Entertainment Weekly where they were talking about the two in dueling movie roles, and thinking what would happen if they both were in the same movie. I also agree with NoMoreHeroesfan12 about him playing Cedric Diggory; he was actually likeable in Goblet of Fire.

Comment by Bang It Out on May 28, 2012 at 11:54pm Can I just say I don't give a shit about the Hunger Games but I love the picture you guys chose for this article? XD
Whoops, I just did.
Comment by Fatality on May 28, 2012 at 10:14pm @Madman Without a Box He'd be ok but he and Liam (Gale) look too much alike (duh, they're brothers). Nobody will be able to tell them apart most of the time on screen.
Comment by NoMoreHeroesfan12 on May 28, 2012 at 8:31pm Hey guys, c'mon. He played a good Cedric in harry potter.
Comment by Hogwarts Dropout on May 28, 2012 at 7:42pm I may be in the minority on this one, but I think it'd be funny if they got Chris Hemsworth to play Finnick. Not bloody likely, mind, but I'd get a chuckle out of it.
