Satoshi Kon, one of my all time favorite animated directors, died today. Totally unexpected, this is a real blow to the entire animation community as a
whole, not just anime. His films TOKYO GODFATHERS, PERFECT BLUE, PAPRIKA
and others surpassed what most people are doing with animation and told
stories the pushed the medium forward.

Not letting the animation medium hold him back, he was willing to experiment, often confusing the general audience, but doing so in the most beautiful and thought provoking way.

Kon had one of the most unique animation styles around, and his work was instantly recognizable. You could throw on a series of his films, flip from one to the next and recognize his
work.

I’m rambling now. I’m just so sad to see that he won’t live to create more beautiful art, more films that make me think... his legacy will live on, but he had so much more to bring.

Satoshi Kon was only 47 years old and died of cancer.

I’m going to go watch PARANOIA AGENT until the sun comes up.

Perfect Blue was incredible. Plain and simple. Along with the folks at Studio Ghibli, this man is one of the most important figures in animation, anime or otherwise.
I thank you for lending the world your creative vision, Satoshi Kon. You will be missed.

No... This is awful. That guy was the reason I love anime. He's the argument I have when people say "anime is just super-powered comic bullshit". That man rocked hard. Now this happens...

One of the great legends of animation. I'll miss him, and keep using his works as proof that Japanese anime and animation in general deserves respect.

R.I.P - I very recently watched Millenium Actress and that was just one of those films that had a huge impact on me. This is such sad news.

What disturbed me is that I watched Tokyo Godfather, Paprika and Millenium Actress on the 23rd, for the first time so I'd just discovered him. Then this happens a day later :/

Great moviemaker, will be missed.

Damn. Paranoia Agent is one of my favourite anime series ever and Perfect Blue was a masterpiece. Sad loss of an amazing talent.

Jesus, I´m actually saddened by this.

I adore his body of work, Paprika is my favourite anime movie of all time.

He will be missed, and remebered more than Miyazaki
