That Guy Jv posted a statusAfter thousands of years the humans have discovered the existence of vampires and lycans within their society. Now for the first time, the vampires and lycans are the one's being hunted in what is being called, "The Great Purge." Selene, a vampire with the unique ability to survive in the sun, is attempting to flee the country with her lover Michael, the only vampire/lycan hybrid in existence. Before the two can get on the boat they are ambushed by a group of soldiers and are knocked unconscious in an explosion. The next thing Selene see's is a scattered vision of someone releasing her from a cryonic freeze container. Selene escapes the facility into the world outside and discovers that twelve years have gone by. Guided only by the visions she keeps having Selene searches to discover what happened to her and Michael, and who released her from her containment.
Despite what appears to be the popular opinion I actually enjoyed the first two Underworld movies, yet I have not seen the third. They were fun B-movie sort action films. This forth movie is by far the best of them all. There is only about 15 minutes in the entire movie that is not action oriented. Which is just fine with me, as when the movie does center around the "plot" the pacing drops dramatically. The story is not terrible it's just that the rest of the movie has such a breakneck (literally) pace that whenever that pacing is slowed down you find yourself just waiting for the film to return to the action. I happen to see this in 3D which really does enhance some of the more extreme fighting scenes. One of the final fights between Selene and a giant Hulk werewolf is probably one of the better fights sequences I've seen in a while. I was genuinely surprised when the credits began rolling because it didn't seem like that much time had gone by. There is such a devotion to the fighting between the vampires and lycans that most of the movie just breezes past. In the end why not? After being subjected to all of this Twilight bullshit over these past few years. The public needed a movie that is just vampires and werewolfs kicking the shit out of each other and actually killing humans. Kate Beckinsale is still doing what she was doing in the other Underworld movies so if you didn't find her appealing in those then don't expect to get turned around by this one. The film does have a certain limiting quality to what I can say about it, as 90% of the film is just action sequences. Acton sequences however that make you pay attention and keep your pulse going.
If my use of the phrase "Hulk werewolf" did not grab your attention then this is probably not the film for you. I however will definitely be seeing the sequel when and if it comes out. Full Price
