J.A.R.V.I.S joined Cyrus's groupTucker (Alan Tudyk) and Dale (Tyler Labine) are two "hillbillys" who have just purchased a fixer up vacation home out in the woods. Unfortunately for them a group of college kids has also chosen the same woods for a getaway. When the college kids begin to accidentally commit suicide, and their friends think Tucker and Dale are responsible the whole area becomes a battleground as our two heroes must defend themselves from the insane college kids.
Let me say this right out of the gate, I am as well versed in horror cinema as I probably should be. In fact most of the time I avoid horror movies altogether. Not because I doubt their quality, but I am simply just to easily put off put excessive gore and torture porn. Maybe that's why I did not enjoy this movie as much as I had hoped to. The entire movie is filled with tropes that pop up in most horror films and uses them to good comedic effect. There were just points were is fell flat for me. I can recall a few scenes where there would be stuff happening that I was aware of was supposed to be funny but just didn't resonate with me. The college kids in general I thought were to over exaggerated and at times just felt like they were dragging the scenes past their comedic effect. The story as well didn't feel very fleshed out to me. As it was happening I found myself sighing and kept checking the Netflix timer to see much longer there was left to go.
None of this however means I did not enjoy myself when watching it. The chemistry between Tucker and Dale is there and any scenes where they were the prime focus I was laughing out loud. This is dampened however by the romance between Dale and one of the college kids. Which after it is introduced to the plot, the movie becomes less Tucker and Dale vs Evil and more so Dale vs Evil featuring Tucker. For a movie with such a good concept I was surprised they didn't play with it more rather than follow what they thought a story must have in order to be a story. All of that being said, I did like the movie a sizable amount and would recommend it to anyone who is a horror fan. As this movie is clearly geared more towards that audience. Low Matinee
