Alright, despite the sort of two and a half star rating out of 4's we saw everywhere from critics around America, do we really want a second Hancock.
First, the beginning 30 minutes of Hancock had me laughing and caring about this character. Even though Will Smith gave a usual awsome performance throughout the whole movie, his character seemed boring and his plot far fetched and confusing. I personally liked the film. It was a mediocre finish at best but it had its moments.
It did bring in its usuall 4th of Will Smith- mean July, total revenue, but for a film that didn't build up to the hype it didn't deserve it. One of the vices for the movie was that there wasn't a villian for the character Hancock to fight. They just threw a guy he arrested in the beginning out there and had him fight Hancock for no reason once or ever. To the movie's credit, I think they were trying to pull off a Man vs Self plot for the movie but it went away as soon as the movie started to bore.
The mythological part of the movie with him and his friend's wife being the only one with powers and have been alive for over 2000 years or something, it was like "What the heck!" I was in the theater with my friends (who aren't usually critical of movies) and we gave the look of confusion to each other. It had nothing to do with the plot and it tried to be a big part of it. She ended up saving his life because of what we unexpectedly found out and I wasn't satisfied.
So, what could have been a timeless classic of a drunk superhero trying to turn him self around, they just ruined it by having him become a baby-face and ruining the plot.
Do I want a Hancock 2, meh. I will go watch it because all the mistakes from the first movie can be easily corrected and made into a solid stand alone film with not having to worry about what happened in the first movie. But I have a feeling that it won't be the end of the characters that ruined the plot in the first movie, (other girl with powers and husband and child).
Good luck...
