I have such a pet peeve for Black people who think they can pretend that this is a good movie just because of the story that it tells. I'm with Cyrus--I'm Black and I thought this movie was really bad. I mean, if it weren't for David Oyelowo, this movie would be complete trash. It has bad acting, a bad script, bad editing, even the action felt very amateurish and TV-movie and hokey. As Co-Host said, there are many good moments in the movie, but for every good moment, you have to sit through about seven or eight bad ones. I was literally cringing in my seat for the majority of the movie...

Pops wanted to go see this for his birthday, he loves everything war and loves the story of the Tuskegee Airmen. When I woke up to find the audio review negative I worried. Goddamnit, George Lucas! My dad loves Star Wars too! Why you always picking on us?!

I purposely waited to listen to the review until I watched the movie just to have a un-biased opinion  Me and my friend listened to to it afterwards, and Ii bet him $5 that one of the crew would make a Darth Vader  comment about the Nazi ace. Thank you for helping me win that bet! :) . It's an all right movie ; Tuskegee Airmen portrayed them a lot better.  I suggest a matinee as well. Kinda disappointed in John Ridley though. I'm a big fan of his stuff, and thought he could've done better.

Dang... I was really hoping for this to be great. I still might check this out on a free Tuesday.

Turns out Aaron McGruder was hired for punch-up, George wanted him and personally reached out. Seems like he knew that might get more people into the cinema to see this. I wonder when the action figures will come out.

This seems like one of these movies that's gonna split people. You either recognize the flaws and take them for what they are, like Leon did. Or you just have so much trouble getting past the flaws that you can't enjoy the movie, like Cyrus.

I think for most people, me included, who grew up listening to stories of the Tuskegee Airman and always admired them for their heroism, are so disappointed because of the wasted potential

I can understand that people are excited to see black men as heroes on the silver screen. We don't see enough of that. But with the advances made in film and the money behind this - not to mention the 20 year production span - there's no excuse for the technical flaws in this film. The Airmen deserve better, and those young actors deserve better, as well.

So I went to see it in a sparse theater ,which surprisingly had mostly older white couples with young black audience members, in the end everyone enjoyed the movie including myself.  Gripe-wise the bomber pilots sounded hokey and some of the black pilots sounded country for no reason. That said it did the great job on getting you hooked on the subject matter and the characters, so much so that when one died there wasn't a dry eye in the house.  While Gooding & Howard were serviceable, their roles were one note as were the recognizable faces earlier in the film.  The film in essence showcased a lot of up and coming black actors, some recognizable others not so much but they all gave great performances, given the material.  I have to say, from a writing standpoint I'm disappointed given the pedigree this has with the story by John Ridley and a screenplay by Ridley and Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder.  All and all it was a decent film and I hope the story of the 332nd Fighter Group gets told again with the same acting caliber as the tv film and spirit of this.  Highly recommended MATINEE

Recently saw this film and I got to disagree with the spillios and the spill crew. I enjoy the film. I didn't have any exceedingly high expectations and I was pleased. This was a fun flick and sure it had hokey dialogue and a few bad actors but the good outweighs the bad. I loved it the two young leads were great in their roles and Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr was decent in their roles. I loved all the sky battles. I am just glad blacks were not treated as baffoonish coons and they were not victims waiting for the white mans help. They were heroes who loved their racist ass country. I really dug it and I am honored that the Tuskegee airmen risked their lives so dumbass like us can bitch on the Internet and the other luxuries we still have. 3/5 stars.
