Ralph Macchio Joins 'Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho'

More news coming in relating to Sacha Gervasi's micro biopic 'Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho.' This film, as its lengthy title suggests, centers on the production of legendary director Alfred Hitchcock's seminal thriller and so far boasts a cast that includes Sir Anthony Hopkins, Dame Hellen Mirren, Scarlett Johannson, and Jessica Biel. In rather surprising turn of events, Ralph Macchio ('The Karate Kid') has now been cast as 'Psycho' screenwriter Joe Stefano. 'Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho,'based on the book by Stephen Rebello, is currently in production and will be co-produced by Fox Searchlight.

Again, I'm an enormous Hitchcock nerd so this project only intrigues me more and more with each new piece of casting. I have to say, and not that this was crucial to the biopic, but Macchio really does look like Stefano. If you haven't seen it, there is a great documentary called 'Dial H for Hitchcock' that makes the rotation on the premium movie channels from time to time; sadly not available on DVD. In the documentary, which catalogs Hitch's entire career, they talk quite a bit with Stefano, and it's easy to see Macchio as a younger version of the screenwriter. As to his acting talent, I'm ashamed to say I haven't seen much of Macchio's work post-puberty. I did think he was funny on 'Entourage,'but even that was a few years ago. Still, if nothing else, it's a very outside-the-box piece of casting and hopefully one that will benefit the film.

What do you guys think? Any fans of grownup Macchio out there? Do you see the resemblance to Stefano?

He did a great job on his small guest appearance on Psych as the teacher to the cops
