Last night, I finally beat Dark Souls. I had to start four different characters until I got a build that worked for me, and my total play time (which included the DLC and all optional areas and bosses) came out to about 80 hours on the character that I beat the game with.
It was 80 hours well spent.

This was very informative. I love the ridiculous difficulty of the game because it feels so rewarding when you pass a hard part. Probably the most satisfying gaming experience I have played in a long time.
