Professor Jeff: Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena Trailer

Oh Japan, you never cease to put a crazy smile on my face. When I want muddy brown textures and balls out military shooting, I tend to look to the good old you ess of ay, but when I get a hankering for complete batshit lunacy, the land of the rising sun is the first on my list of places to look. Take Persona for example: in one iteration of the franchise characters actually had to shoot themselves in the head with a magic gun in order to summon their magical familiars. Or consider Guilty Gear, whose character roster includes a transgender, bounty hunting nun who fights with a giant yo-yo and teddy bear. Can you imagine what the anti-game pundits would have to say about these things if they knew? Jack Thompson would literally explode with self righteous fury. So it's got to be my birthday or something, because someone decided to let Arc System Works make a Persona FIGHTING GAME! That's two crazy tastes that taste even crazier together.

But where's my Final Fantasy kart racing game?

OK folks, now down to business. During our review of Catherine I danced around the fact that I was miffed that Atlus had wasted all this development time when they should have been working on the next Persona. Not to say that Catherine was a terrible game or anything, but Persona has eaten more hours of my life than I care to tally. In fact the only real use that I ever got out of the backwards compatibility of my original PS3 was about forty hours worth of Persona 4. In some ways I'm glad that I don't have that option anymore. But fear not, me! Atlus is bringing Persona 4 over to the Playstation Vita with even more content than before! Hooray! My life will be in ruins! As if that wasn't enough, we've got Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena and work has officially begun on Persona 5. Doing anything besides gaming is apparently for chumps.

But let's take a look at Persona 4 TUIMA for a moment (if you think I'm writing that whole thing out every time you're nuttier than fruitcake). Maybe it's all the time that I spent with Persona 4, but this trailer has me far, far more excited than anything I've seen from either Guilty Gear or BlazBlue, Arc System Works' previous fighting games. There's always been something missing in ASW's other games that kept me losing more than say, a weekend on either title. What that something is, I couldn't say. I mean, the graphics are superb, the character design is some of the most inventive I've ever seen, and the fighting mechanics seem fine. But having said all that, something has always just seemed lacking.

So I'm happy to say that Persona 4 TUIMA looks 100% up my alley. Just the thought of being able to beat the ever-lovin' stuffing out of that little jerk Teddie gives me warm fuzzies all over. But enough about my extra-curricular activities, what do you guys think? Are you interested in the cross pollination of franchises and game types? What should we root for next? A Phantasy Star space combat game? How about a Suikoden FPS? Or maybe a Mortal Kombat side scrolling adventure game. Oh, wait... no.

Sweetheart, unless your breasts have some tactical relavance you may want to zip up and get a haircut.

Did someone say Suikoden? *Head explodes by the fangasm induced by the mere mention of the game.

I could possibly see it as a third-person adventure-type game, though the series has alredy showed new types of gameplay in Tacticts as well as in the Suikogaiden-novels. While I think Suikoden 6 would be the best option, I'd be happy if Konami just did something with the series.

That RE trailer...does indeed look dangerously close to hentai. It's dissapointing to see that they went for monsters that spew suggestive white liquid instead of something that's actually...oh I don't know...Scary!

Call me lame but I am so sick of gratuitous, overly-sexual video games that has nothing to do with sex. Really Resident Evil? Can't sell by just the name alone. Had to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

I'd just be happy with Suikoden 6 to be honest....

That RE trailer...didn't...do anything for me.  Like nothing.  Which is sad,  because I am an RE fan.  It came off more as a bad hentai then anything else...

I have to hand it to Atlus because they can make one ELECTRIFYING trailer! I think I just may want to play the demo version of this. Or at least at the arcade... if I can find an arcade.

I bought the original Persona and only played it for an hour before it confused the hell out of me... and for some reason I did the same with the second one.

I might pay full price for a Suikoden FPS. I have heard that the Suikoden dev team has disbanded, so it would be high time for a new one to step in.

Oh, and I like that Arc System Works is getting more work. Although they flopped on KOF XII, KOF XIII looks like it will redeem them. This Persona 4 TUMA looks pretty good too.

A Persona arcade style fighting game?  That's what Atlus has been working on?  Whatever!  The people don't care about that ish.  Give us Persona 5 already!

I love Arc Sys fighting games over any other, so this is no question a buy for me.
