Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. As I'm sure you've realized by now, we've had a bit of a lull in gaming news as of late. It appears that the industry as a whole has collectively blown their wad on news and announcements at that little E3 party a couple of weeks ago. Go figure. So seeing as how the trailer stream has dried up for the time being, I thought we'd try a little something new. This week four big releases are dropping and instead of focusing on the far flung future of 20XX, I thought we'd look at the new pearls dropping this week. So strap in and let's see how they're going to empty our wallets this time.
Has any video game character had a better name than Garcia Hotspur? I think not.
Ahhhhh. Now that's some refreshing crazy. For anyone who's been living under a rock or not paying attention, Shadows of the Damned is the latest game by crazy pants producer, Suda 51. But wait, there's still more! Act now and you'll get Shinji Mikami, creator of Resident Evil absolutely free! Now how much would you pay? SotD is the story of motorcycle riding, leather jacket wearing, demon hunting badass Garcia Hotspur and his journey through Hell to save his dead girlfriend from the clutches of.. you guessed it! Evil! Act in the next fifteen minutes and you'll get music from legendary Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka at no additional charge!
Wilst thou suck? That seems a bit extreme Nintendo.
Do you think there's going to be a boomerang? I'll be there's going to be a boomerang. The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3DS came out yesterday and finally I've got a reason to pick my 3DS back up again. It's funny how I had kind of forgotten about Nintendo's new handheld until the third day of E3 when I wandered up into the 3DS section of Nintendo's booth. After playing a whole slew of new titles, I was reminded that the 3DS has enormous potential which, if you'll pardon me, up until now has been largely squandered. Now I know that Nintendo doesn't do big game releases in conjunction with their consoles anymore, but honestly... Pilotwings? Come on Nintendo, who are you trying to kid? Hopefully with Ocarina of Time the 3DS will finally start gettin' down to business.
Marylin Manson? What are you doing in my video games. Go on! Shoo!
Hmmmm. It occurs that having never finished a FEAR game may have me working at a disadvantage here. There would appear to be blood aplenty and ridiculously large guns, though. So that's a plus. I'm just going to leave it up to you folks to school me on this one.
Together we are stronger, huh? Tell that to Leeroy Jenkins' party.
Finally, here's Dungeon Siege 3. I've kind of had half an eye on this one for a while, but after seeing the end of this trailer and the Obsidian Entertainment logo, you can now officially count me as a worthless skeptic. Some folks give Obsidian the benefit of the doubt, but in my mind all they do is take franchises that have some cool potential and run them straight into the ground. They did it with KOTOR 2, they did it with Neverwinter Nights 2, and they did it with Fallout New Vegas. As much of a fan as I was of Fallout 3, when I found out that Obsidian was making New Vegas I gave it a wide berth. Finally, after picking it up on Steam for a song, I was completely disappointed. Hell, I never even finished it, it was so lackluster. So my early prediction is that Dungeon Siege 3 is going to be a buggy, bland mess. Prove me wrong Obsidian! I dare you!
So there are your big new releases for the week. What are you guys getting? All of them? Maaannnn... lucky!

I've never heard of sony grouping ps3 and psp sales together but i do see your point in regards to financial reasons to make sure shareholders are happy. In answer to your question no i wouldn't consider those systems similar, i just don't really see a new console as a new console when from an electronic standpoint they use the same components and just tweak how they use those components. just my personal view when looking at nintendo handhelds from the gameboy to the DS they really haven't done much to actually make something new the gameboy advance really looks like a foldable gameboy and even the 3DS looks like another version of any of the DS systems when you see pictures of it.
Clearly i have gotten way off topic with my responses because i was originally trying to point out to another poster that you really can't call the DSi a failure in terms of sales, and since developers and companies no longer report actual sales figures anymore we get inflated figures in terms of how many units have been sold to stores it really does make it hard to tell what is a success and what fails unless the company tells us.

Sony has grouped psp and ps3 sales before. Would you consider those two systems minor tweaks from one another? For the DS family your point is probably true, but the more likely answer is to appear as strong financialy as possible. They certainly don't want shareholders to get all uppity and nervous.

my argument does seem to come off that way doesn't it, I've just never considered the GBA to be a new handheld just an improvement to the gameboy, it's the same way with all the DS handhelds to me they use the same technology with improvements and tweaks to each one.
Now the design of the 3DS is similar to the DSi, DSi Xl, i didn't realize that they use different components than the DS lineup, the only reason i bring up nintendo grouping the systems in sales figures is because that's how nintendo groups the handhelds they say they have sold over a 100 million gameboy's which includes GBA and that the Nintendo DS (DS, DS lit, DSi, DSi xl) is close to matching the lifetime sales of the gameboy.
The point i'm trying to make is that if a company says they have a single item that they look at the sales figures for and don't separate each different handheld out when looking at those figures it makes me think that they only consider those different handhelds to be tweaks, i would almost compare it to MS windows except MS comes out with a decent version then a crap version then a decent version so as many steps forward they take they tend to take that many back

I'm using the Xperia Play smartphone (you know the playstation phone) and i finally found a working N64 emulator just so I could get Orcarina of Time on there. And then I saw the trailer for the 3DS version and it's ofcourse a major graphical update over the N64 one. I figure that is the only thing they changed and left the gameplay intact. Don't think it's much of a reboot more than it it's a report to the 3DS with highly improved graphics.
Even if you think it was past your mark that game is worth every cent, played it to death on the N64 and still playing it so much on my phone now that i have to recharge it almsot every day.

I've never seen anyone lump the GBA into the sales figures of the Gameboy unless someone was taking into account all Nintendo handhelds. And just because Nintendo groups their systems together in sales figures does not make them the same console. I don't even understand your argument here, you basically don't see something as a new console unless the lifetime sales of it are written separately from its predecessor?
Sorry if I'm comming across as rude I'm just way too much into video games and take them a tad too seriously at times.

Onto business, I'm actually quite excited about the reboot of Zelda, many of my friends own a ds and I've been curious about one myself. Also I always felt it was past my mark to go play the legendary Ocarina of Time, that I somehow missed the train. Now would be a great time to get on board but I have friends already talking shit about the game, mainly on graphics. I won't spend money out of curiosity or on a whim, but I have no current game stations of any sort. Hopefully good reviews come out, or not, we'll see.
