DevilishlyHandsome49 posted a statusNo one post should have all that POW-ER! OK now that that's out of the way... Turn 10 and Microsoft have finally released the Forza 4 trailer from E3 in full eye, splitting HD and boy is it worth the wait. I'm a bit concerned though, about the souls of the developers. I mean, if someone didn't sell their soul to get a game to look this good on the 360, then serious voodoo had to have been employed at least.
The power of Christ compels you! The power of Christ compels you!
Admittedly, I'm not a big fan of racing games. I know that's strange considering that one of my first podcasts for the site was for Gran Turismo 5. But I figured someone had to do it and who better than a total neophyte who wasn't going to bring along prejudices or preconceptions to the franchise. But honestly, I'm more of a Burnout and Wipeout kind of guy than any kind of hardcore racing enthusiast. I'm really not much of a gearhead. Sure, I can appreciate a finely crafted piece of technology, but the sound of a perfectly tuned engine revving with horsepower is more of a technical curiosity to me than a pants splitting epiphany.
So now that we've established that I don't really have all that much at stake here, I'd just like to say that it seems like Forza is kind of making Gran Turismo its bitch. I know that the two aren't really the same game, but Forza has managed to carve out its own market space in the racing genre in the time between when GT 4 and 5 were released. That bears repeating. When GT 4 was released, there was no Forza. Between GT 4 and GT 5 THREE Forza games were released. Now not every one of those has been the best racing simulator of all time, but to people who just want to drive, that's got to be more appealing than waiting half a decade between titles.
I know that I ask for you guys to comment on stuff all the time on these posts, but I'm genuinely interested in this one. For all you racing fans out there I want to know, has Forza taken you away from Gran Turismo? Or do you still prefer the simulation style of GT to the slightly more simplistic feel of Forza? Are you in it for the racing, the tuning, what? How many of you passed on GT 5 or will pass on GT 6 because of this series? Inquiring minds want to know.
If a man launcher is more your style of car, here's the completely insane new Saints Row: The Third trailer.
By the way, the boys over at Giant Bomb postulated after both Forza and Saints Row used 'Power' by Kanye West in their trailers that this song had become the 'Guile's Theme' of video game trailers. Don't believe me? Search youtube for 'power goes with every trailer' and see what you find. Just one example:

Comment by ArmedVegan on July 16, 2011 at 11:27am I loved GT3 when I had it but never fully used all the crazy customization. One thing that Forza 2 had for me, if I remember correctly, were licenses to Ferrari and Lambo, which GT3 or 4 did not have I think. They are both great series and I can really enjoy them both and am glad to see them both looking so pretty.
Agreed on the Power by Kanye song. I just discovered "How you like me now" by Heavy which seems to be the same ubiquitousness. Also, never played any of hte Saint's Row but really curious with how fun and crazy it looks compared to the usually GTA seriousness.

Comment by Chuck Christ on July 14, 2011 at 11:56am Forza feels like an arcade game. You can rewind and fix all your problems. The tuning is very basic and for me, completely undesirable. GT5 feels like driving a car. If you mess up, it's because you aren't driving it correctly.
I love cars, so I love GT. Forza can go suck a fuck.

;)

@Mr. Ereebus and RunPower
As I understand it, GT 5 has a bit more going on under the hood (if you'll excuse the pun) in the physics department. A friend of mine who is all up ins the racing game genre told me that GT 5 has a more technically accurate physics model. He says that the drifting, drafting, car weight, and overall physical attributes are modeled to a finer degree in GT 5 than they are in Forza. Now whether that's true or not, I could hardly say. But that's been the overall consensus I've heard from folks in the know.
@Pablo and nangle
Should definitely be soon.
