Several sources are reporting that Peter Jackson - the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind the Lord of the Rings series - has been hospitalized today due to a perforated ulcer, leading to a "slight delay" in the upcoming production of "The Hobbit" films.
A brief statement from Jackson's publicist said:
"The Hobbit" - the much anticipated prequel to the Lord of the Rings, was supposed to begin production sometime in February, but will now have to be pushed back slightly as Jackson recovers. As fans of the series may know, this is yet another in a long line of delays for the seemingly cursed production (more about that here, here, and here). Starring Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and featuring Ian McKellen, Elijah Woods, and Andy Serkis reprising their roles from the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "The Hobbit" is still slated for release in December 2012 and December 2013.
