Wow, big day for sequel news. First Michael Bay makes his 'Trans4mers' commitment and now Steven Spielberg reveals that the lord of 'The Lord of the Rings,' Peter Jackson, will be taking over the next 'Adventures of Tintin' film. Jackson served as producer under Spielberg when Steven directed last year's adaptation of the popular comic book series. Spielberg stated that Jackson will go directly from directing 'The Hobbit' into helming 'Tintin 2' with what seems like no break in between. Spielberg wanted to return to direct another 'Tintin' film, but apparently he and Jackson had made a deal that they would trade off for the sequel. The interviewer tries to get Spielberg to confirm which of the 'Tintin' stories would serve as the basis for the film, but he would not give up the ghost on that front; though 'The Calculus Affair' was previously mentioned by producer Kathleen Kennedy.
I can't wait to see Peter Jackson's 'Tintin' movie. I wasn't expecting to enjoy the first one as much as I did, and if there is one guy I would trust in the director's chair aside from Spielberg, it would easily be Jackson. Since 'Tintin 2,' like the first film, will be accomplished entirely with motion-capture, it seems right up Jackson's alley. His motion-capture work with the character Gollum in 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy helped revolutionize the technology. And hey, speaking of Gollum, Jackson working with Andy Serkis again? How can you not love that? Serkis voiced Captain Haddock in the first film and I have no doubt he'll be reprising the role with Jackson in charge of the ship. Though Kennedy had let slip that 'The Calculus Affair' would be the adapted story, Spielberg ducks and dodges the question pretty well. I still think 'The Calculus Affair' will makeup much of the screenplay, but Spielberg also mentions that the script will cover more than one book so it'll most likely work in conjunction with another story.
Are you guys excited about Jackson taking over? Any fans of the 'Tintin' comics out there? What can you tell us about 'The Calculus Affair?'

Comment by Jojotogi on February 14, 2012 at 1:43pm Cool beans! This made my day!
Incidentally, I believe Mrs. Turner also mentioned a while back that the story might incorporate elements of The Blue Lotus, Tintin's first adventures in pre-Communist China. Aside from the Japanese characters (they were the villains), it actually made an effort to humanize Asian characters. If that element makes it into the film, I'll be doing my happy dance!
Comment by Mr. Robinson on February 14, 2012 at 1:32pm This is just the news I need to recover from the horrific news of Michael Bay making a Transformers reboot. :) I think Jackson will do great. I haven't seen a single one of his movies that I didn't like, I even enjoyed "The Lovely Bones" despite it's problems.
WAHOO!!! YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!
The Calculus Affair' center around Tintin's friend propessor Calculus who invented a machine that produce waves that can brake glass and vanishes one day, kidnapt my foren criminals who are after the machine.
It's more of a detective story then a treasure hunt one so I puzzled how will it fit to the rest of the treasure hunt story
Comment by Nightshadow on February 14, 2012 at 1:09pm I thought they announced this months ago.
Comment by Alex Cardullo on February 14, 2012 at 1:02pm Well, I think this was always the case, and I think it leads to Tin Tin 3 being directed by Edgar Wright.

Comment by Denis McElwaine on February 14, 2012 at 12:56pm Now, this is a much better piece of news. I really dug the first Tintin, and I'm glad they're sticking with the mo-cap tech
