Paramount To Bring Us The New Adventures Of Tom & Huck
Remember that awful Disney movie 'Tom & Huck?' It was the story of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn starring then-big-deals Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Brad Renfro. Well it seems Paramount thinks it's high time Mark Twain's literary duo were rebooted. The studio has purchased Andy Burg's spec script 'Huck,' which is apparently a reimagining of the characters similar to the approach taken in 'Snow White and the Huntsman.' The film will apparently focus on the adult versions of Tom and Huck and feature supernatural elements. Among the producers on this project are Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark who also produced last year's 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes.' No word yet on a director, cast, or proposed start date.
I don't want to write off this project automatically, but it does seem like we're getting a riverboat load of fictional character reimagings lately. 'Snow White and the Huntsman' was already mentioned, but we're also getting 'Jack the Giant Killer' and 'Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters' just to name a few. It bears noting that the latter two characters, as well as Huck Finn, are in the public domain so the cost-effective attraction for studios is pretty evident. But I'm holding off my cynicism as much as possible here. For one thing, it can't be as bad as Disney's 1995 take on the characters. Also, and I know this is a dull glimmer of hope, the producers of 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' are on board. I am very aware that there are plenty of people far more responsible for the success of 'RotPotA' than its producers, but I'll take what I can get at this point. It will be interesting to see what supernatural elements get thrown into the mix, but I'll go ahead and take a shot at it. My guess is that Tom and Huck must travel up river during a 19th century zombie outbreak and deal with the walking dead on a series of half-destroyed plantations. Obviously, that stinks. So how about you guys take a stab at it?
Any better guesses as to the supernatural elements that will turn up? Are you interested in this project? Did I offend any 'Tom & Huck' fans?

Oh, great...another literary/historical legend with the addition of the supernatural craze of the moment (i.e. vampires, zombies, ghosts, etc). I understand some parts of Huck Finn could be a slippery slope to partake, but to add a supernatural element to a classic is just asinine. Can the entertainment industry please stop with the mash-ups, already?
What's next? Little Bo Peep vs. Zombified Vampire Sheep?

Is this going to be Supernatural set along the Mississippi river? They added vampires to Aberham Linclon, zombies to Pride and Prejudice, I think I heard they are adding werewolves to The Lone Ranger, turning mutated turtles into aliens, and now what ever they will add to Tom and Huck, ghost maybe? What's next, Shakespeare versus robots? This new trend needs to stop IMO.
