Stumbling Blocks:

Rourke isn't a predictable guy --though so far he's gracious
Miniscule budget Oscar prefers $$$
Wrestling is not exactly the sport they'd choose for their favored sports drama
Critics Awards for Best Picture haven't materialized
December glut. They probably waited too long... Consensus would have grown about how strong it is.

True but, if you go by rotten tomatoes, that would make Let The Right One in on the same level as the Wrestler....

Clearly it's not winning any awards, and the Academy does not honour sports movies, and if it does Wrestling is never one of the sports they honour. They would much rather go with political dramas or period romances like they do every single year.

And critical hype??

Dark Knight had that too, it's just they're both still Genre Films and I haven't seen the Wrestler until yesterday so I couldn't put that on my list. It doesn't matter what others are saying the academy considers ever film outside of Politcal Drama and Period Romance worthless.

Then again who could forget Lord of The Rings.

I would like to see The Wrestler winning Best Picture Award but anyway Frost/Nixon and Slumdog Millionare are both great movies. And the Dark Knight won't probably get nominated for best Picture but anyway nice list.I know everyone is entitled with their own opinions and predictions. So I predict that either Milk or The Wrestler is going to win Best Picture, Mickey Rourke Best Male Lead, Best Director Danny Boyle, Best Supporting Actor I agree with you on Heath Ledger, and on Meryl Streep for best actress, Best Supporting Actress Kate Winslet.

Please inform me why you think that the wrestlers chances of winning are higher than forst/nixons? Or milk when both of those have clearly been better films

I guess personal tastes never matter anymore :D
As for Heath Ledger, his cold corpse is gonna have a run for it's money. I personally feel like Aaron Eckhart is getting the shaft this year, which is a damn shame.

jesus christ enough with dark knight winning goddamn everything!! its a good movie but it isnt the second coming...
