Oozaru Goku revealed from Dragon Ball live action movie

DB fans, feist your eyes with this:

So far I've kept myself avoiding to make any kind of comment about the upcoming live action movie of Dragon Ball, mostly because that, despite being a fan of the series for a very long time, I understand that is impossible to ask for a faithful adaptation that won't end being completely ridiculous. Let's face it, Dragon Ball was no Shakespeare, and yet, part of it's beauty was based on that, so, we didn´t mind if 5 minute battles became a 10 episode arc as long as Goku ended the winner and returned home to complain he was hungry. But, if you want to stretch that out from the anime/manga universe, you're bound to get strange looks, bad reviews and angry fans.

As for his Oozaru form, I guess we could take this the same way FF fans had to take Galactus from the last movie, difference is, there's a point where you can buy the whole "giant robot trying to eat the earth", whereas the Oozaru, well, that's a fruit harder to sell, not because it doesn't have a point, but it didn't have a point for fans until much later.

Needless to say I have no real expectations on the movie, that trailer looked like Power Rangers with a bigger budget and actors who sold their dignity -Emmy Rossum, I'm looking at you- Chances for it being good are as possible as Rob Scheneider ever getting an Oscar. Fans won't be pleased, non fans will find it silly, and people willing to give a try won't say is good. Most likely this movie will be directed towards very young kids, and they have the advantage of no Wachowski Bros. to make long boring and confusing exposition montages, so it will be short.

About the picture? It sucks, even if it wasn't in the context of DB, it would still suck.

Anyway.

I'm one of those who think that this movie shouldn't be made.
It will never please the fans and hardly appeal to the masses.
Besides, the whole Dragon Ball hysteria is globally attoned right now.
But, since they're making it and there's nothing to do about it, as a true DB fan, I think that it should be made as a serious hollywood movie, wich brigs a list of problems.
The first is the way in wich Dragon Ball was started and progressed. When Toriyama started DB, he wanted to make an adventure manga freely based on the Chinese legend of Son Goku, the Monkey King. That way, a very strong kid with a tail, a magic pole, flying nimbus and who transformed into a giant monkey at full moon, "made sense". The DB started to gain popularity, and Toriyama was being pressed into writing more and more Dragon Ball. Goku's enemies where gradualy stronger, until he defeated God himself (Piccolo was the dark side of God). Beyond that point Toriyama had to bring enemies from another worlds. That's when he decided that Goku and Piccolo where superman-like aliens from outer space, and there's where thing start to get complicated for movie makers...
Who seriously believe or think that it whould work on film, an humanoid, human-like alien who turns into a Giant Monkey at full moon? Serioriously?
That's why this picture of alien oozaru doesn't surprise or disgust me, even with my fanboy heart. I always thought that an alien should look like an alien... not a monkey!
There's so much in the movie that I think that ruins more the experience than alien oozaru, like the High School Scenario, mixing Red Ribbon army with Pilaf's gang and Piccolo's secret society, abcense of Goku's true best friend - Klilin (c'mon this guy turned into raged Super Saiyan after Freeza kills Klilin, that has to say something), the fact that Goku and Bulma only get to meet each other as adults (I really hope they really pull their friendship off, in my opinion is one of the driving trains of all story) and the fact that the movie starts at the end of Dragon Ball arch, there were so many good and funny stories before that.
I think that Justin Chatwin will do a decent Goku, this picture really got me:
Emmy Rossum will pull of a wonderfull Bulma, as an excelent actress as she is, James Marsters is more than used to play the bad guy (and a assumed fan of the anime), and Chow Yun Fat is a great actor, no problem with Roshi.
