Only 11 People See Motherhood in Britain

Does a movie's intake indicate a film's quality? Most of the time, it doesn't. Many of my favorite films (The Fountain) flopped upon release and later gained bigger audiences once discovered on DVD. However, with this film, it might be the exception. Motherhood only grossed $40,000 in the United States and has a very low rating on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. That's bad enough for film budgeted at $5,000,000 but its debut in Britain is beyond tragic.

After the weekend of March 5-7, Motherhood had only grossed a total of £88, and on that Sunday, grossed only £9, which means only one person watched it. OUCH!

Uma Thurman is a great actress in many movies but she needs to get a better agent. For every hit like Kill Bill, you have three Avengers. Just take a look at this list of movies she's starred in.

The Avengers

Prime

My Super-Ex Girlfriend

The Accidental Husband

The Producers

Be Cool

Paycheck

Batman and Robin

All of these films are not just bad films, they all flopped. Many stars have done many bad movies but the list here is sad.

You may think this has to be a record but the award for worst opening goes to Zyxxyx Road. Released briefly at one Texas cinema, it grossed $30.

He didn't say The Producers was bad, he just said it flopped

Wasn't she in that Harry Potter knockoff? Percy something....that did pretty well, but not even made it into the thousands? Was the movie even advertised?

I think The Producers was not a bad movie at all. Of course, I also think Uma Thurman is at best a mediocre actress.

@Bert:

You can blow through a fast 5,000,000 just paying Uma Thurman, Anthony Edwards and Minnie Driver to be in your movie ON location in New York. Especially if (According to IMDB) they have to literally close down a park, a school and a store. Then turn around and re-fill that park, school and store with "extras" so that you can control the background and not have some New York wacko go completely nuts and ruin the entire day by attacking someone.

Honestly, Uma, if this isn't the wakeup call that will convince you to fire your agent, nothing will ever be.

"So, while technically a failure at the box-office, I don't think anyone really had high hopes for it to begin with."

Somehow I suspect that the people who spent $5,000,000 on it thought it would do better.

I don't know if Uwe Boll is involved with the distribution company or not, but with the return figures I wouldn't be surprised if he is. lol

@MDS Since it was related to Uwe Boll, I'm not surprised by the figures.
