So a writer has been chosen for the 5th and 6th installments for the Spider-Man franchise. As a huge fan, this concerns me a bit. Aren't things moving too quickly? Don't we need to sign on the main stars before we start planning for more movies?
Could we be headed for a reboot? And why? Also, is this one Spidey flick too many? Comment below.
Sony Taps Writer for Spider-Man 5 and 6
Spider-Man 4 hasn't even been filmed yet, but Sony is already looking ahead to the fifth and sixth installments in the franchise.
The studio has recruited James Vanderbilt to pen Spider-Man 5 and Spider-Man 6, which have an interconnected storyline, Variety reports. Vanderbilt wrote the screenplay to 2007's serial-killer drama Zodiac.
Vanderbilt was the first writer on Spider-Man 4, but the script has since seen two rewrites because director Sam Raimi and the cast were not on board with Vanderbilt's ideas, which originally linked the fourth and fifth films.
Raimi, and stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, are not attached beyond Spider-Man 4. Raimi's future with the series remains even more unclear as he has signed on to helm a World of Warcraft movie following his Spider-Man 4 commitment. Should the trio not return, the fifth and sixth films will be used as a reboot for the franchise.
Spider-Man 4 will begin production next year for a May 2011 release.
