Via the film's official Facebook page, director Francis Ford Coppola has unveiled brand new images from his upcoming experimental film 'Twixt'. Starring Val Kilmer as a failed writer who is visited by a mysterious ghost in his dreams, the film takes advantage of current 3D technology as well as a whole new system in which the film is dynamically edited and changed - on the fly while it is being "performed" in the theater - so that no two viewings of the film are ever alike. At this year's Comic Con, the director talked in depth about the techniques involved which include the ability to instantly edit scenes from "short versions" to "long versions", or to change the music that plays behind a scene to make it lighter or more sinister, etc. When performed and edited in such a way, the film's overall tone can be drastically changed from dark and horror-filled to more lighthearted and campy, based upon the audience's reactions:

Synopsis for 'Twixt':

A writer with a career in decline arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl. That night in a dream, he is approached by a mysterious young ghost named V. He’s unsure of her connection to the murder in the town, but is grateful for the story being handed to him. Ultimately he is led to the truth of the story, surprised to find that the ending has more to do with his own life than he could ever have anticipated.

For a director who needs to make a comeback, I'm not sure this is the best time to be doing a massive experiment with audience viewing.  But then again, it could turn out to be a cool idea.  Not sure on this one.

Well this could make for one very inconsistent film.

Color me interested. I wonder how the live editing will play out, and how they plan on releasing it on DVD/Blu-Ray.

Well, I guess it's good that he's doing something new in Hollywood.  However, I'm not really sure about both the movie itself or this 'editing on the fly' technique yet.   Like others have already pointed out, how is this going to translate in reviews and in dvds?

The plot sounds a little too experimental
