If it's crap ... We'll tell you
Over the last couple of months, the web has been flooded with news about the ever-changing casting process for Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic 'Noah.' First it looked like Liam Neeson was going to land the part, but then just last week the discussion moved to Liev Schreiber. Now, it looks as if the tides have changed again. An offer has been made to actor Ray Winstone ('The Departed') to be the film's chief bad guy. Apparently, Aronofsky wanted an actor with grit and imposing physicality to offer an adequate foe for Russell Crowe. Negotiations are currently underway.
Wow. I remember when we first heard that Aronofsky was making a Noah's Ark movie, and how oddball the choice seemed. At that point, I never would have expected that the real epic quest would have been finding a villain. It's important to note here that we can't take it for granted that Winstone will be playing the villain. Each time one of these stories broke, another player was in contention for the role but a few days later. That being said, if Liev Schreiber is truly out of the running, I am quite disappointed. Again, I really loved him in 'Goon' and wanted to see he and Noah go toe-to-toe as he did with Seann William Scott in Michael Dowse's exemplary hockey comedy. As to Winstone, I will say the guy is a certified badass and I know he could easily take on this part. He was scary good in 'The Departed,' and I would also highly recommend a 2000 film he did with Sir Ben Kingsley called 'Sexy Beast.' If he ends up winning out, I'm sure 'Noah' will benefit.
What do you guys think? How about Winstone for the villain? Will Aronofsky ever find a port in this casting storm?

There's a villain in Noah?
Comment by Charmingman93 on June 12, 2012 at 4:34pm Eric - Aronofsky is an atheist he's just doing a film about Noah, he'll probably weird it up so it won't be what we expect like a lot of his films. I mean Morgan Freeman is an atheist and he's played God twice!
Comment by Jigaboo Banzai on June 12, 2012 at 4:18pm so he's gonna play God?
Comment by Joseph E T Hughes on June 12, 2012 at 2:38pm Though I like Ray, I still can't help but feel the cast is progressively trading down...but it's Aronofsky, so it'll still be excellent.
Daren Aronofsky I fucking love you and you're the only reason I'm seeing this fucking pro-fucking religion fucking movie.

Comment by J Rod on June 12, 2012 at 12:31pm Nah, dawg, he's playing rain.
He's playing the villain? I guess God would be the villain in this film. God was a huge dick in the Old Testament.
