Korey here. For those of you who have kept up with events here on the site, you know I've been to Sundance so the review is going up a little late, despite the fact that it was recorded a few weeks ago.

I'm happy it's up, though, because it's one of those rare reviews where two members of the crew saw the same movie in totally two different ways.

I dont think this movie was meant to glamorize a gangsta. Evendently Biggie wasnt that successful as a drug dealer because he was arrested twice and never made it past corner boy. Plus the drug dealer/gangsta part of the movie was all of 25-30 minutes. the movie speaks of his life and death, the good and the bad and i believe you would have to be interested in knowing his story or in him as a person/artist to appreciate it. His mom even said that she didnt like the way her son manipulated his friends but she didnt have it cut from the movie because it was the truth. Lil kim was upset about how she was depicted. she wanted an asian girl to play her for crack sake. instead they had a brown skinned young lady play her because that was the truth. in my opinion it was a good movie and all the actors did a good job. sure it wont win an award (maybe BET) but still a good story.

I would like to believe that but it's hard to when every wannabe gangster has a Scarface poster on their wall. I guess you'll believe that the movie hasn't influenced them at all..

i think it is an "interest" thing because I wasnt that impressed with Ray but i loved this movie. the thing about biopic films is that they have to show the good the bad and the ugly sides of these glamourized figures. we as fans dont get to see the humble beginings of these celebrities so the fact that Biggie wasnt a perfect person wasnt surprising to me. I mean Ray was a drug addict and a womanizer who had many kids as well so what made Ray more compelling as a person than Biggie? Again, i think it is an "interest" thing.

I think Leon is trying to say that movies tend to glamorize the heinous and make it into something desirable in the eyes of the ignorant. The old expression is "sugar coated sh*t is still sh*t". The ignorant do not know any better and as a result can be very naive and gullably. If you are going to teach them something teach them something that they can use to be upstanding and better themselves and stop capitalizing on their pitable state.

Really like the almost opposing views. Looking forward to seeing this, as I'm a huge Biggie fan.
