Last week it was announced that the rumored second sequel to Sylvester Stallone's 'The Expendables' was indeed happening. At the American Film Market in California, 'Expendables 3' was revealed to be a part of Millennium Films' official slate of releases. This news actually came some time after one of the franchise's producers had let slip that the proposed next installment was pursuing some other high profile actors who had yet to appear in the series. Among these actors were Harrison Ford, Clint Eastwood, Wesley Snipes, and Nicolas Cage. Admittedly, there is a bit of a disparity in the legendary statuses of these three, or rather the first two and the latter, but that may explain why the first of the quartet Stallone has been able to lock down is Cage. Stallone confirmed Cage's involvement via Facebook...
"We are preparing the film with the same passion and commitment as the previous two. We have confirmed Nicolas Cage, a master actor who gives a veneer intellectual group. Hopefully we can realize to Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and Mickey Rourke. That is the great mission of the producer."
So yes, Cage is confirmed, and Wesley Snipes is still in the discussion as well. Again, I don't care one iota whether Mickey Rourke returns, as he was my least favorite character in the first film and the second suffered not at all for his absence. Let's be real, the Harrison Ford and Clint Eastwood casting objectives are pipe dreams. I can't see either one of them actually agreeing to this. Although if you had asked me over the weekend whether I thought we'd ever see Ford come back to Han Solo, I'd have told you that you were insane. Still, I'm not so much surprised about Cage. Over the last few years, he's become one of those actors who can't seem to turn down a role. He's managed to turn in some at least wildly entertaining performances during this run, but the majority of them run the gamut from sad to nigh unwatchable. My only hope is that he's used well and that 'Expendables 3' isn't another white noise actioner loaded with awful computer-generated effects. And yes, I know I am officially asking too much.
What do you guys think? Is Cage a good addition to 'The Expendables 3?' Would anyone be at this point?

Comment by Chum Chum Bubkapenis on November 9, 2012 at 5:05pm The downward spiral continues. Poor money-hemorrhaging bastard.
I want to see this movie franchise when they're REALLY scraping the bottom of the 80s action barrel. Michael Dudikoff and Brian Bosworth and Gary Busey. And maybe the entire cast of American Gladiators.
Comment by Ezmeraldo15 on November 7, 2012 at 4:02pm Sgt. Pepper13, have you not seen Con Air, Nick Cage is sort of a badass in that movie, in a silly way though.
Comment by Anthony Stokes on November 7, 2012 at 6:51am Fuck this entire Franchise it's everything wrong with Action Cinema. We don't need to make a good movie just a movie with a lot of old ass actors in it
Isn't Wesley Snipes in jail?...
Comment by The Blind Fella on November 7, 2012 at 1:50am I guess they needed someone who could out crazy JCVD from the second film. There was really only one choice then.
