Remember that 'Daredevil' movie with Ben Affleck? It was not so bueno. However, in the wake of the continued box office draw of Marvel's many characters, Fox is planning a reboot of the blind lawyer-turned-vigilante. As of now, this reboot is set to be directed by David Slade ('30 Days of Night,' 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse'). Recently, the studio moved the project a step further toward reality by hiring newcomer David James Kelly to rewrite the existing script. Kelly will be taking over for Brad Kane ('Fringe') who was originally brought aboard to pen the script. Rumor has it that the new Daredevil movie will be based on the 'Born Again' story arc by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli in which the Kingpin discovers Daredevil's true identity. No word yet on when the new Daredevil film is due out.
I'm not going to argue that 2003's 'Daredevil' was good, mostly because my eyes are functioning, but I like the character quite a bit and would love to see a decent film adaptation. Knowing only the tiniest bit about the 'Born Again' storyline, I'm glad to see it will be the basis of the new film. However, and with no disrespect intended to Mr. Kelly, I can't help but feel like there's been a step down at the writing position here. Kelly has never been credited with a single screenplay, and yet he's being brought in to rewrite a script by 'Fringe's Brad Kane? It seems ill-advised at best. I also have mixed feelings about Slade as the director for this project. Sure, I had fun with '30 Days of Night,' and 'Hard Candy' is a staggeringly effective film, but the words 'The Twilight Saga' on his resume are enough to give pause to my enthusiasm for this reboot. Of course, once they announce who will be playing Matt Murdoch, the conversation of who's rewriting the reboot will be overshadowed.
What do you guys think? Does this screenwriter changeover concern you? Do you believe Slade, as director, can pull this off?

Comment by rubickscuban on April 30, 2012 at 3:44pm eh, i dunno.......kingpin is cool and all, but i'd love to see what they'd do with a villain like the owl or mister fear. sure, he's daredevil's nemisis, but look at iron man. they didn't use the mandarin for the first one and it was pretty awesome.
Comment by Danny Eli on April 30, 2012 at 3:33pm ok look, will defend david slade in that the Third twilight maybe is the one, that is the most watchable.
Comment by Ruben Baeza on April 30, 2012 at 3:29pm the 2003 version looked like a good film, until they showed clips of jennifer gardner as elektra. God she did a poor job with that character in the film.

most of the stuff in Nolon's Batman Begins comes from Long Halloween and Year one, but yeah you are absolutely right, plus he took two charecters stuck in campyness and made them awsome again
Comment by adam on April 30, 2012 at 2:13pm however if they use the kingpin, get that fat guy from Ninja Assasin, or possibly Nathon Jones
Also, I'm sure no one cares, but if you are interested, 2 years ago I wrote what I thought a potential Daredevil rebooted trilogy would be like:
Film 1 plot: just a basic set up, along the lines of something Fox would do.
Film 2 plot: This one I'm kind of proud of. Doing the Elektra Saga right.
Film 3 plot: Just a retelling of the fan favorite Daredevil: Born Again, with some minor changes to complete the trilogy.
Comment by adam on April 30, 2012 at 1:57pm Lets put it this way, every hero diserves a reboot, a good reboot at that. I mean Punisher 2004 was a decent film, but Warzone just made the Punisher a bad joke. If the director and writer put the same amount of effort into this film that Nolon did with Dark Knight, then this should be good. Just Dont try to be realistic the way Nolon did it. Daredevil has alot of realistic stuff yes, but with enemies like the hand, you got to keep the supernatural stuff.
@Dr.DeadVortex,
Maybe I can answer that. Frank Miller has had a huge influence is writing both Daredevil and Batman. And Many of Nolan's additions to the Batman myth are ones Daredevil did first.
Daredevil was trained by ninjas.
Daredevil fights a mysterious organization of ninjas that want to control crime.
Daredevil is a martial artist.
Daredevil has no significant Superpowers (he has a radar) so he can get beat bad.
He likes to stick to the shadows and has an advantage in the dark.
Most of his most critically acclaimed stories are ones that work as detective or criminal stories with the superhero antics taking a back seat.
Daredevil has never had much luck with women, they all go insane or die on him.
Now that The Dark Knight has proved fans will see a grim and gritty set in reality story about a superhero, there is no reason for Fox not to do it.
