New 'Star Trek Into Darknesss' Empire Covers And Set Pics

So so so excited for J.J. Abrams' 'Star Trek Into Darkness,' and no amount of nonstop marketing blitz can temper my enthusiasm. Today, Empire Magazine released not only a host of new set pics from the upcoming sci-fi sequel, but also four new covers featuring Kirk (Chris Pine) and villain John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch). Some really interesting stuff revealed in these images. I like the fact, for example, taht Kirk still seeks the counsel of Commander Pike (Bruce Greenwood). Take a look at the images below and let us now what you think.

'Star Trek Into Darkness' hits theaters May 17th, 2013

Does no one think the Kirk cover looks silly as shit? He looks like he has diarrhea..

Does anyone else find hard to take the new Star Trek serious with the whole crew being so young and pretty?

@ Dr. Detfink: Dude, I think you may have nailed it.  There was a whole Super race at one time. A bunch were blasted into space in cryosleep. What are the stories of the others??  Did they put everyone into cryo? Is Harrison a follower of Kahn??  Setting the stage for Kahn in a future movie? That whole part of earth history, pre-federation would be interesting way to go.Becasue the time line of history is not messed with until the events in the last movie....Oh this could be real fun, a new character with a link to past Star Trek history. Best of both worlds???

The Kirk cover reminded me of Booker de Witt from Bioshock Infinite.

It would be cool if Benedict sherlock scanned Kirk and Spock.

Oh Benedict Cumberbatch, my ovaries belong to you! LOL. In all seriousness though, I loved the 2009 Star Trek. It was a bit ridiculous in its fast-tracking of Kirk to make sure he'd be Captain for the next movie, but I'm willing to ignore that little issue. The film itself was very creative in its retconning of the original story. I for one can't wait for the newest film!

I'm with Tony Kerns wasn't a big fan of Trek 09 (especially the ridiculous Cadet to Captain promotion Kirk gets at films end), and though the trailer for the follow up looks impressive I am expecting more generic sci-fi fare. The Empire covers look very average to me, perhaps photoshopped way too much. The idea of going back to Khan seems obvious and all signs point to that, but doesn't that make creating a new universe totally redundant if you're going to just rehash the same villains again? I thought the idea about the Abrams-verse was to take the same key characters to TOS and introduce them to a new audience, create new experiences, new stories and so on instead of just bringing back a villain that the mainstream audience if vaguely aware of and shaping a story around said villains battle with Kirk. I know that Nero was a new villain but he was also completely out of the blue and his only motivation was the ridiculous destruction of Romulus he blamed on Spock. I hope that this is going to be a story borne of THIS canon, something truly original.
