New Promo Images For 'John Carter'
The trailer for Andrew Staton's 'John Carter,' based on the novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, is expansive, but it also moves at a fairly blistering pace. It can therefore be difficult to notice individual characters. That's why I like these two new promo images from the film. The first shows Mark Strong ('Sherlock Homles,' 'Green Lantern') as Matai Shang. The second features Dominic West ('300,' 'Punisher: War Zone') as Sab Than. Don't know who these characters are or how they fit into the story? Yeah, me neither. Unfortunately I have not yet read Burroughs' novel. Well, take a gander at the images below, replete with character descriptions, and tell us what you think.
'John Carter' hits theaters March 9th
Matai Shang (Mark Strong) is the Holy Hekkador (King) of the Therns. Using their advanced technology, the mysterious Therns represent themselves as the messengers of Issus, the Barsoomian Goddess, in order to further their own plans.
Sab Than (Dominic West) is the Jeddak (King) of Zodanga. He is impulsive, arrogant and aggressive; promoting war and conquest as the Zodangan way of life. With his dangerously calculated charm, Sab Than will even try to make a deal with the devil to destroy Helium and rule all of Barsoom.

people need to start looking at the work WETA workshops did on costume for the LOTR series because a lot of armor from recent movies has really looked flimsy and cheap. Armor needs to have some weight and believability in its protective capacity to it so that the actor can truly get into the mindset of a warrior.
