New Pictures and Trailer to Battlestar Galactica Spin-Off Movie, "Caprica"

Only a few episodes left to Battlestar Galactica and already I'm sad. Anytime a quality source of entertainment like this one comes to an end, it's always depressing, but at least it's a natural death, unlike so many other shows canceled before their time. Of course, anything this popular on TV any you know what happens...SPIN-OFF!

And with that, I present the Battlestar Galactica spin-off, "Caprica". From the Wikipedia entry:

Described as "television's first science fiction family saga," Caprica is a terrestrial drama rather than a space opera, set against the backdrop of a society close to our own. The Twelve Colonies are at peace, 51 years before the reimagined series, when an act of religious terrorism sets the worlds of the Adamas and the Graystones onto a collision course. Brought together by the grief over their lost daughters, prominent civil liberties lawyer Joseph Adama, father of future Battlestar commander William Adama, and Daniel Graystone, a wealthy technologist, find they are both struggling to keep going. Obsessed, Daniel sets his considerable wealth and sprawling industrial corporation to the singular task of bringing the girls back to life. After experiments with startling breakthroughs in robotics and AI take a questionable turn, Joseph becomes a vehement opponent of the path Daniel starts down.

The 2 hour pilot movie will be released on DVD and digital download on April 21st.

Eric Stoltz as Daniel Greystone

Alessandra Toreson as Daniel's daughter/robot double Zoe Greystone

Magda Apanowicz as Lacy Rand

Eric Stoltz and Paula Malcomson who plays Amanda Greystone

Eric Stoltz and Esai Morales who plays Joseph Adama, father of Battlestar Galactica's William Adama

Polly Walker as Sister Clarice Willow

While the idea of sci-fi prequels at this point in time leaves a sour taste in my mouth, maybe Ron D. Moore and company will be the ones to change that for me. Maybe watching the 'birth of the new Cylons' will make for good TV after all.

Check out the trailer for the upcoming movie and series right here.

I like Eric Stoltz, maybe this will work, maybe it won't. One thing I know that it's going to make me miss Battlestar Galactica EVEN MORE! when it's over.

I'm still on the fence with this one. Hopefully, if the show goes far enough we'll see some good old fashioned clunky Cylon models and the beginning of the first Cylon war. And, unlike the Star Wars prequels, there are no characters present in this series that we know how they'll end up (not yet anyway). But so far this is looking more like Gattaca than BSG. I have faith in Ron Moore to make a quality show, but I don't know if I'm quite ready to see BSG like THIS.

BSG turned many preconceptions about Sci-Fi on their preverbiale ears. Perhaps Caprica can change minds by being a well done prequel (although I feel dirty saying prequel).

... i was liking this idea until I realized "new" was dropped from the title... I'm not really interested in seeing the adventures of Apollo's grand dad ... going to court going home, having a son who will one day grow up to fight a war that is either currently happening or about to or has happen(ed) ..but you never know. could be good
