It's hard not to get excited about Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit,' mostly because I'm a geek and my eyeballs work. As we creep closer and closer to the final leg of 2012, we draw nearer and nearer to the first film's release. To further tease us, a new image from the 'The Hobbit' has just been released. The image is of Thorin Oakenshield (played in the film by Richard Armitage). I love this pic, as it shows Thorin brandishing Orcrist. Seriously, I can't wait to return to Middle-earth. Take a look at the image below and let us know what you think.

The first half of 'The Hobbit' hits theaters December 25th

The Dwarves in the animated movie looked like a bunch of elderly men.  I think its cool to see them look more warrior like since Gimli was such a beast in the LOTR trilogy.

Looking a little too young and studly for Thorin...I know he's a baddasss, but he's supposed to be the grey (or at least greying) elder statesman. Slightly paranoid now that Peter J is going too fast on the Artistic Liberty Express....

I've been looking forward to it since day one, but as a casual fan I'm almost certain that its not going to do it for me as much as the LOTR trilogy did. It might be partially age, partially that I don't see anything really upping the ante from those movies yet, and also be that I'm a way bigger Game of Thrones fan now (as different as they are its hard to not be a little ruined by it).

@Goatsey, if all of the dwarves looked the same, (big stout and long beards) it would be boring as hell to look at. There's a whole company of dwarves to deal with in this movie, so we need something to differentiate between them, otherwise it would be drab, and they might as well be background characters/extras, rather than individual dwarves with their own personalities. Their look has to reflect who they are, for example Thorin here looks charismatic and heroic, and looks like a leader - looks very noble. In LOTR Gimli was gruff and fiery, so he was stout and a bearded tank. It just makes sense that Peter Jackson (or whoever did the casting/costume design) would make them look like this. I believe Dwalin (i think that's him) is the gruff one out of the dwarves in this movie, so he appears taller than the rest and more muscly. Its just a matter of design. If you want them to look like they do in the book (ive seen an illustrated version where they can only be differentiated by the colour of their cloaks) then it would just be a mess to look at. Hope that helps. Of course, you are entitled to your opinion!

Ah, Middle Earth.  Again.

I DO hope this (THESE) movies do well.  I'm also interested to see the new "look" of the film.  But the trailer does look a bit been there/done that.

I am honestly looking forward to this.
