Taking the cover of the latest issue of Empire Magazine is 'Dredd', the comic book adaptation starring Karl Urban as the title character - a gruff "Street Judge" who enforces law and order - often violently - on the streets of Mega City One, a giant dystopian supercity surrounded by wastelands.
Also included in the magazine are new stills from the sequel none of us knew we wanted - 'Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance'. Once again, the film stars Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze, a cursed motorcycle rider with a flaming skull for a head. In the new film, Blaze is hiding out in the European countryside when a plot by the devil to posses his mortal son brings him back into action. The film also stars Idris Elba as what he recently described as a "French-speaking, wine-drinking, motorcycle-riding warrior monk":

Comment by BlaK CyClopz on July 27, 2011 at 4:18pm I find it amusing reading some of your comments about the Dredd movie, but I put that down to your unfamiliarity with the character outside of that iffy Stallone movie. I can understand - if the only exposure I had to Batman was the Batman and Robin film then I would have been cynical when they announced Batman begins.
I for one am looking forward to Dredd, and having read the script I know that character wise Dredd is much closer to the comic in spirit. Its in no way connected to the Stallone film which was just wrong.
Stallone was not Dredd.
Its not a boring origin story as even in the comics his origin was only fully explored almost 30 years after the debut. It is non stop hard violent R rated action from beginning to end. I don't know about you but given a choice between this and Green Lantern - this is the kind of film I want to see.
The team behind 28 Days Later and Sunshine and District 9 are making it so I have faith that it will look good for its budget.
A note on the costume and look - Karl Urban is very close to the original look that Dredd has in the early comics, and the uniform is closer to the original design by Carlos Ezquerra.
Comment by sam mccain on July 27, 2011 at 2:16pm I love Idris Elba on that bike. Look at his face, it's like he's been riding for 48 hrs without a wink of sleep. Trying so hard to stay awake with his motorcycle listing to the side. Pull over and take a nap buddy, you've earned it!
