Giant mech suits piloted by humans take on a race of giant alien monsters who rose from the bottom of the sea. That sounds like the plot of a story written by a sugared-up third-grader, certainly a sugared-up third-grade version of myself, but it is indeed the central conceit of Guillermo del Toro's 'Pacific Rim.' Now, the fact that a storyline such as that is eternally awesome means that the now much older me is still so excited to see 'Pacific Rim.' This latest image from the film is pretty damn cool. Though initially a bit unassuming, a hand covered in some sort of goop, the caption that came with the image stated, "this is as close as you ever want to get to Kaiju blood." What?! Badass! Take a look at the image below and let us know what you think.

'Pacific Rim' hits theaters July 12th

If it bleeds, we can kill it!

@Ash

   I can not nor will i try to speak for anyone else on this site but myself. I am excited for the person behind the project way more then the concept of the project. I feel Guillermo really takes time and cares about the project he is working on and not just trying to make a quick dollar on the project. It is hard to talk about the story in the movie because the trailers have only really shown the robots and action (to try to get the butts in the seats). Maybe the story will be a tight story with a underlining tone that may make you think, then again maybe not. We just have to wait and see.

   I can also see the points that yoou make in your second comment and i see where you are coming from and understand your feelings up to this point. I think this movie is trying to get a larger audience in to the theaters  however, deep down this is a fan boy movie. And that maybe the key point in the hyping of this movie and that is that it is a fan boy movie and it takes alot to change the mind and thinking of a fan boy.

Looking forward to this movie for one reason, Guillermo del Toro, however I have a feeling if he wasn't directing this film then a lot of people would be hating on this film and calling it a rip off of Transformers in the same vain as Battleship.

I'm excited for the film, but this just looks like someone stuck their hand in oil.  It would be awesome if they showed an actual Kaiju in the shot as well.

Here's the thing. what makes this un-original? To a lot of people they've been waiting to see something like this and see it done well for decades. If you want to say Anime has been doing robots vs monsters for years, then fine, but that's not live action and carries a different level of immersion. Giant robots in transformers? Debatable on qualityu levels not everyone likes "Bayformers" on the terms that it tends to be a bit pretentious or can't accept it because it's based on a toy franchaise. If you want to say monster movies have been done, fine, but they haven't been done well, with Cloverfield being a debatable possible exception and the American Godzilla movie being the best example of what people hate. People are excited because this is from early appearances what a lot of people consider a "bad ass" big budget sci-fi movie that has clearly had a lot of work put into it because say what you will about DelToro even if you think his movies might not be good it's not because he didn't make an effort. So when you call into question whether or not people should be excited for this movie, yes you will likely catch a lot of passionate hate and more than your share of unfavorable reactions.
