If it's crap ... We'll tell you

BackstageOyster posted a blog postTim Burton is a director who has come under great scrutiny in recent years for his propensity for adapating other people's work. He's remade 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,' 'Planet of the Apes,' done a big screen adaptation of 'Sweeney Todd,' and even converted a trading card series into a movie with 'Mars Attacks.' So now he's remaking...his own film? I'm not sure if that's better or worse. Recently, this new image from Burton's 'Frankenweenie,' the feature-length remake of his 1984 short about a boy resurrecting his fallen canine companion, arrived showcasing the film's black-and-white, unmistakeably Tim Burton-y aesthetic. The updated version will feature the voice talents of Winona Ryder, Martin Landau, Catherine O'Hara, and Martin Short. Take a look below and tell us what you think.

Comment by Kevin McMullin on December 30, 2011 at 1:25am I love that there setting it where the orginal was set in the 60's, and from the posters on the kids wall he still will be a child filmmaker- horror/sci-fi geek who in the orginal got the idea to reanimate his dead dogs corspe from the movies.
Somebody made a comment that it looks alot like his short Vincent and well it dose.
Comment by Boatloads1017 on December 30, 2011 at 12:23am I'm sorry, but I gotta have more Henry Selick. If you saw Corpse Bride, you saw what happens when Burton does this without Selick. But who knows, let's see what he's got.
Comment by Matthew Seeley on December 30, 2011 at 12:07am Correction for those saying the movie is not in 3D: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankenweenie_%282012_film%29
Did nobody see Coraline in 3D!!?? That was amazing in 3D! The 3D enhanced it I thought.

Comment by Richard Dempsey on December 29, 2011 at 9:54pm Very Burtonesque indeed. Whether the idea is for better or for worse, it looks like Burton knows what he's doing.
Comment by Composite Who Horrible on December 29, 2011 at 9:30pm I loved the original as a kid and have been waiting for this movie for a long time. I really hope this succeeds, although it could be like Scott Pilgrim in that it's not very well known.
Comment by Hector Fernando Andrade JR. II on December 29, 2011 at 7:09pm Cool image by the way :)
