If it's crap ... We'll tell you

Shield of Frozen Injustice posted a status2013 will bring us a sequel to 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and remakes of both 'Carrie' and 'Evil Dead.' The marketing for Fede Alvarez's 'Evil Dead' has been pretty brash so far; at times declaring itself "the most terrifying film you will ever experience." This latest red-band trailer seems bent on furthering that conviction. I'm still dubious, but I will admit there is some stunning imagery here and I like the callbacks to Raimi's film. My biggest problem is still the fact that the overly severe tone sold in the trailers for the remake seems at odds with the darkly comedic original. Take a look at the red-band trailer below and let us know what you think.
'Evil Dead' hits theaters April 12th

Comment by D.F.W.J a.k.a Captain Fuck You! on January 5, 2013 at 3:51pm This is one of my most anticipated remakes/horror films of 2013. Now, from looking at this trailer, I know they said that Ash would be a girl time go round, but the guy with the denim shirt seems like Ash a lot. I mean, it could be just a throw back for fans, but he talks to the girl who gets raped(that shit is burned in the back of my skull), he has the chainsaw, he buries the head of a girl, he has that conversation with the guy to kill one of the girls, and he finds the entrance destroyed. IDK, help me out hear people. Let me know whatcha think.
Somewhere and sometime when reverence and solemnity is called upon, my mind is going to flashback to that Superman animation and I'm going to burst out laughing. I'm hoping it's not at a funeral.

Comment by Christian Bergman Jr. on January 5, 2013 at 1:50pm I think they're heading in the right direction. Evil Dead has been done to death, they may as well look for a different tone if they're going to remake it.
Comment by Dominic Cellini on January 5, 2013 at 12:49pm I enjoy the original Evil Dead, mostly for how over-the-top it is, but if they want to make this more serious they should go for less "gross out" scares. Personally, I think they've just ran out of ideas for horror movies.
Comment by Jon Riddle on January 5, 2013 at 10:37am Frankly,I'm looking forward to a more "severe" version. If this movie had to be remade (it didn't) I'd prefer that the new version embrace the darkness of that first film. Every time I watch The Evil Dead, I think to myself "If it weren't for Bruce Campbell making goofy faces, this movie would be utterly terrifying!"
So go ahead, remake. The gauntlet has been thrown down. Terrify me. I fucking dare you.

Comment by Neg Primer on January 5, 2013 at 4:31am The first one was SUPPOSED to be a horror movie. It was pretty campy, and ultimately pretty funny.
Frankly, this one seems like it's going in the same path. Could be a good thing, could be bad.
Comment by Nick Dennis on January 5, 2013 at 12:06am guys the original was meant to be an actual horror movie. the funny stuff didn't come until the second one.
