New 'Evil Dead' Clip
Sam Raimi's 'The Evil Dead' set several new standards for horror cinema. Fede Alvarez's 'Evil Dead' remake seems adeptly aware of these standards, and plays with them in ways that are both reverent and unique. In fact, he plays with all sorts of existing horror tropes. In this latest clip from the film, one of the inhabitants of that ill-fated cabin in the woods finds herself face-to-face with an open medicine cabinet containing a mirror. If you've seen even three horror films, you're probably aware of what tends to happen when that mirror comes back into view of the camera. Here, Alvarez seems content to smash that expectation. Literally. Take a look at the clip below and let us know what you think.

I know everyone is going to do this but the original did it better. Where the evil comes out of the mirror to convince Ash that he is indeed going insane and that all of the crazy shit he's going through isn't the evil but in fact his own mind driving him crazy. This.....just looks like horror 101 and I can see it being a shitty tv-edited clip...but still...from things I've seen this seems like a shitty remake/homage to a great horror film series.
