Neill Blomkamp's 'Elysium' Nabs Villain, Release Date

Source: THR

Brazilian actor Wagner Moura is the latest addition to Neill Blomkamp's futuristic sci-fi film 'Elysium'. Star of the hit 'Elite Squad' films, Moura joins an all-star cast including Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, and 'District 9' star Sharlto Copley. He will reportedly play the villain of the film, described as having "a crazy sense of humor".

Little is known about the film's premise other than it's set on a futuristic world (not Earth), Damon's character is an ex-con, and somehow sociopolitical status figures into the plot much in the same way Blomkamp's previous film 'District 9' did.

Sony announced today that they will release the film on March 8th, 2013. So far, 'Elysium' has that weekend all to itself, but with added crowds from the Easter holiday and spring vacations, it may be the perfect opportunity to allow the film to "grow legs". Rumored to have a $125 million dollar budget (more than three times the $35mil budget for 'District 9'), Sony hopes that Blomkamp's commitment to intelligent and thoughtful filmmaking will equal box office success.

Even though he only man one movie, the greatest movie ever made, Blomkamp is the greatest director in Hollywood. Even better then Chris Nolan.

Great! Wagner Moura is a good actor. At least he has a good range. Let's see what happens.
