Obviously, there will be major spoilers in this article.

10.) Marlena's Death/Cloverfield

I'm sorry, but this scene freaked me the fu** out. It's such a sudden death, it comes out of nowhere with little to no hints thrown in. I mean, looking back, it makes sense, but the first time you watch this movie, I can guarantee it will surprise you. In a very gory fashion.

9.) The Rack/Saw 3

This is by far the most disturbing death in the Saw series, and it could've been prevented. You see, this unlucky dude accidently ran over one of the character's son. That man now bears an insane grudge against this poor fellow, but has the opportunity to be a good samaritan and let him out of the trap... which he doesn't do. Que the slow turning of EACH of his limbs in a 360 degree, snapping open the bones of all 4 of his arms and legs, ending with a gruesome head-spin. Scarring.

8.) Headsplosion/Scanners

Can't knock the classics. This quick shot in David Cronenberg's "Scanners" is truely bad-ass, and should be on everyone's "Best Deaths" list. Why? BECAUSE IT'S FU**ING AWESOME, THAT'S WHY. Don't believe me? Go watch it on youtube.

7.) Taser-Canister to the Face/District 9

http://media.photobucket.com/image/district%209%20death%20mumbo/kyu...

I couldn't find a picture to represent this scene, so just click on the link to see a gif of the awesome glory that is District 9. You hate this guy (Mumbo, I think his name was) throughout the entire movie, and I just knew he would come to a grisly end at the hands of Wikus, but I had no idea it would be like this. He IMPALES HIS HEAD with a canister that's laced with electricity, therefore exploding his brain. Lots of gushy parts splatter on the screen for added effect.

6.) Mutant Car-Ram/Robocop

As terrifying and disgusting as this may look, this scene is actually really funny in my opinion. Is it because of the crazy, completely out-of-place effects and gruesome weirdness of this scene, or just because I'm sick? Maybe both. Poor Emil, all he wanted was to kill Robocop. Instead, he crashes his car into a huge toxic waste turbine-thing and instantly begins mutating. The new life of this genetic mutant ends abruptly when he's hit by a car and explodes all over the front windshield. lol.

5.) Tina's Freddy-Induced Wall Spasm/A Nightmare On Elm Street

I really hope they do this scene justice in the upcoming remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street. Truely a chilling scene, Tina falls asleep and is killed in her dreams by none other than Freddy Krueger. Interestingly enough, all of what's happening in her dream translates into the real world, so she's being cut and thrown around the room like a ragdoll.

4.) Sleeping Bagsplosion/Prophecy

You can't help but laugh at this image. It's, like, a 10 year old kid hopping around in a full-body sleeping bag. But you know what's even funnier? That same kid being thrown into a tree and exploding in a burst of feathers from said sleeping bag... it sounds really sick when I actually say it out loud.

3.) Running Over A Child/The Toxic Avenger

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SeiFJ_biSc

Again, couldn't find a picture, so I just put a link to a video of it. 2 Kid-Kills in a row, how about that? I can't tell if this one was meant to be funny, but it kind of is and kind of isn't. The premise is sick and twisted but the way it plays out is a bit humorous. A bunch of teenagers are going around hitting people with their cars for points, and they stumble upon a kid riding his bicycle. Yup. BAM! They hit him, but don't kill him. So they go back for more.

2.) Tooth-Pulling/Oldboy

Again, couldn't get a picture, but maybe that's a good thing. A scene guaranteed to make you cringe, it shows a bunch of teeth being pulled out. This is one of these things that a shelter my eyes from, I just can't imagine the pain of having your teeth pulled out one. By. One. Ecch, damn.

Edit: Apparently this doesn't count as a death scene, seeing as the victim doesn't... well, die. I haven't seen this movie in years, I didn't even realize it was the same guy that came back later. This scene still disturbs me anyway, but I guess I'll replace it with...

1.5!!) Head-crushing/Hot Fuzz

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3HNNJNouWE

Gruesome, disturbing and absolutely fu**ing hilarious. The overblown violence in Hot Fuzz is an awesome part of the movie, and this scene takes the cake. Everyone who opposes this small English town in ANY way, shape or form is instantly taken care of in the most ridiculous way possible, and this is absolutely no exception.

1.) The Pencil Trick/The Dark Knight

I think this picture does a better job of illustrating the act than the (masterful) movie does. One of the darker moments in The Dark Knight, it's a split-second kill where The Joker (Heath Ledger) slams an anonymous henchman's eye into a pencil, ending with a chilling (but oddly funny) "TA-DAHHH!!!! It's... it's gone." Just the idea of this kind of thing in a mainstream, PG-13 superhero movie still baffles me. But I'm still thankful for it.

Runners-up:

Sonny's Death/The Godfather: I knew I'd get flak if I didn't put this on the list, but seeing as it's just a guy getting shot, (albeit many times) I didn't think it deserved a spot in the top ten. Great scene, though.

Teacup Stabbing/The Chronicles of Riddick: Only Vin Diesel could kill a man with a teacup.

Face-Slicing/Equilibrium: Thank you, LDT, for introducing me to this awesome movie. At the end, you expect a huge sword fight between Guy Monta-- I mean, Christian Bale and Taye Diggs, but Christian pulls a "Samurai" and finishes him quickly and epicly. If that's a word.

Eye-Gouging/28 Weeks Later: Yeah, they did this in the first one too, but I think this one gets the spot because the gouging is accompanied with a brutal beating.

Shooting Marvin/Pulp Fiction: Again, just a guy getting shot, but it's funny as hell.

I understand your point, but think about it. Was Emil's death is Robocop meant to evoke sadness? How about Mumbo's in District 9? No, they were meant to evoke a "Hell yeah!" from the crowd. So many movie's have violence nowadays and it's gotten to the point that death's are so spectacularly exaggerated on-screen that it's hard NOT to make a list.

Ummm something is seriously wrong with you. There should never be a top ten death list, we shouldn't highlight or celebrate violence in cinema. The reason the death scenes were in these movies (except Saw) was to invoke emotion of sadness into you because a main character has died, not to go "Woo hoo that was awesome". I am hoping you are really young and naive to how the World works.

If any one has seen the movie Ireversable - with monica belluci - they would agree that the face bashing with the fire extinguisher is by far one of the most brutal and greusome and realistic deaths ever caught on film. it should be in the top five if not number one

King of New York -- death by fire hydrant
Scarface -- Tony's last stand
IJ Temple of Doom -- poor guy gets his heart torn out and THEN gets lowered into a lava pit
Final Destination 2 -- entire opening sequence
The Patriot -- Gibson beats a British soldier to death with his pistol
Robocop -- ED209 malfuntions in a meeting
The Hunted -- Tommy Lee Jones kills Benecio Del Toro in the best knife fight ever filmed
The Last Boyscout -- Touch me again and I'll kill you

there are so many more :-)
Final Destination -- the buss
Braveheart -- FREEDOM!!!
Kiss of the Dragon -- lets just say that the Kiss of the Dragon is a pretty fucked up way to go out.

My vote for one of the funniest deaths in film history is in The Naked Gun 2 1/2-. The villain (played by Robert Goulet) is dangling out a window from several stories and is accidentally dropped- we follow his fall and we think we'll cut away but instead we see him bounce on the cover over the building door and miraculously break his fall. He gets up, looking just as surprised as we are, dusts himself off, and begins walking away...
...Until a tiger pounces him out of nowhere. Brilliant.

Joker stuck the pencil in the table with the sharpened side, leaving the eraser to do the..er..um...erasing.
