My Take On The New 'Saw VI' Trailer, Clips & Posters

It can hard being the minority...especially within a film community. I'm pretty sure most of us have those guilty pleasures that we absolutely loved, but everyone else hated. I'm almost confident in saying that if the Spill community was a small little village, I would probably have people with pitchforks and torches outside my home. Why would these people be outside my home screaming death threats? Well...I'm a big fan of the Saw films.

I can already hear it now: "Saw sucks!" "I liked the first one, but the rest were horrible!" "All they want is money" "I'm tired of these fucking Saw movies, they're just torture-porn!" "They're making more?! I hate these movies!!!" Ahh...the beautiful sound of hatred, you get used to it as a Saw fan. But I live with it and it doesn't take away from me enjoying these films. I was never a huge horror film fan. I only liked a few classics such as The Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby, and The Others (Yes, it's a classic to me). I love horror films that are psychologically disturbing and rich with diverse characters. Personally, I see this in the Saw series, and I know others don't.

I'm not into this series for the gore or traps. Yes the traps are cool, but honestly, if they just held everyone at gun-point I'd be fine with it. Why? Because I'm mostly interested in the story. I find the Jigsaw character to be one of the most interesting horror film characters ever. Tobin Bell's performance always gives me the chills, and his past and motivations leave me in awe. I find myself rooting for him more than anybody else because there's a Grey Zone the film gives off. Is he an antagonist or a protagonist -- we as fans are allowed to decide. Also, there are so many different characters in these films and the film makers pay attention to the smallest details that you can't help but be impressed.

So I'm a hard-core Saw fan...get over it.

SAW VI POSTERS
As we all know, Halloween is just around two months away...and I'm not excited about the candy. Saw VI is going to be released, and it will hopefully be the final installment in the series (even I think making too many films can cause the death of a franchise). This year we're supposed to get all the answers and wrap everything up nicely. A few posters have been released and I have to say -- they're fucking awesome. Here's the two that have been released:

This is probably my favorite poster. I love how it is so subtle and they don't even have to say 'Saw'. All they have to do is saw 'VI'. I would love to hang this in my room.

'His Disease Is Spreading' Poster
This one is pretty cool too. I love how the image comes out, but I still like the first one better. This, however, worked as a good teaser poster.

POSTER CONSENSUS: Once again, Saw delivers some pretty bad-ass posters. I don't think they've ever made a poster I didn't like. Kudos to the poster making people.

SAW VI CLIP: THE CAROUSEL TRAP

This clip, in my opinion, is bittersweet. I absolutely loved the conception of this trap. These guys really think out of the box and find creative ways to kill people...wait what did I say? Anyways, the trap is pretty cool and they designed it beautifully. The scene is dark and rugged. The only thing we see is the red lights flashing, which really brings the trap out. As for the acting...it's hard to watch. That's why this clip is bitter-sweet. These actors do a horrible job, and only a few of them in the carousel give out a solid performance. Acting is something the Saw films need to work on. Don't get me wrong, people like Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith (I'm happy as hell she's back!), Costas Mandylor, Betsy Russell, and Scott Patterson have given great performances, but some other actors can be very difficult to watch. Why can't they get some solid actors back in? The first film was filled with them and now that's something the series is lacking.

CLIP CONSENSUS: Overall, the trap is pretty bad-ass and I love the set design, but the acting is poo-poo.

SAW VI TRAILER

Finally, we reach the trailer. They had a freaking countdown for this thing and I was desperately waiting to see some Saw VI footage. I should have known better though. For the past two films, we've gotten trailers that barely show anything in the film. This one isn't any different. You really don't get to see anything at all...except a nice little tour of some fucked up building with Saw VI footage playing on monitors, mirrors, etc. C'mon! I want to see some actual footage!!! The first three films had excellent trailers that showed just enough, but never enough to spoil anything. This second trilogy has had some crappy trailers and they don't get me excited for the film like they used to. So I'm back at square one...at least I got the clip though.

TRAILER CONSENSUS: This trailer continues the trend of the second trilogy: the trailers continue to be big piles of poo-poo.

That's all I have for you today. I'm hoping and crossing my fingers that they can wrap this series off respectfully. Saw V really left me a little disappointed and I need to recover from that. I've loved the first four installments...and all I'm asking for is a good final installment that will answer all the questions that have been lingering for so long. That's all! I don't give a damn about the traps, give me some good old closure to the plot and characters that I've been watching for the last six years. I really don't know what to expect with this film, even after all of this material they have been releasing.

Also, this sort of pissed me off: they're considering MORE Saw films after this one?! Saw VII, Saw VIII...I think you get the picture. This leaves me to believe this year's installment wont end the series and wrap it up beautifully like I wanted it to. WHY?!?!?! Just please stop. Six films is all you need to tell the story of Jigsaw. I love Saw with a passion and I would hate to see the series continue. Jigsaw's dead and he's had his revenge from the grave three times now -- that's perfect leave it at that! I pretty much agree with this guy:

Oh well. Let's hope this is the last one and 'The Game Comes Full Circle'. I hope that tag line was telling the truth.
