Once upon a time - approx. two years ago - I was a huge fan of the book series
The Clique. Then, I came to my senses and realized how repetitive, shallow, and bad the books were. I still feel a little wave of shame when I walk by my bookshelf and see all eight books sitting there, staring at me.
Then, I heard about this movie. I was excited to see it, partly out of morbid curiousity, and partly because a part of me still loves the shallow fluff of these series.

The Clique, like I said, is based off a best selling young adult series written by Lisi Harrison. The movie follows the plot of the first book.
Massie Block (Elizabeth McLaughlin) has the perfect life. Gorgeous house, perfect clothes, four best friends, and is the number one A-lister of the Octavian Country Day seventh grade class. That is, until the family of her fathers old college friend moves in. Part of the family is a daughter the same age as Massie, named Claire. (Ellen Marlow). Being from Orlando, Claire doesn't have the designer clothes and high class flair Massie does, earning one strike against her. Her arrival, causing Massie to miss a party, earns her another. Enough for Massie to start a violent, bitchy grudge.
Seeing as Claire lives in Massie's guest house, their parents try to lump them together, thinking the two will become fast friends. They don't. With the help of her friends Dylan (Sophia Anna Everhard), Alicia (Samantha Boscarino), and Kristen ((Bridgit Mendler), Massie sets out to make Claire's life a living hell, which she accomplishes on the first day of school by rubbing red paint of the back of her pants. The girls reading this well know how awful that really is.
Eventually, Claire gets tired of all the name calling and harassment, and decides to plot some revenge, which involves an IM hi-jacking, that turns Massie's friends against her, and right to Claire.

I honestly can't believe I'm saying this, but I, to quote Carlyle, dug the hell out of this movie! It was cute, fluffy, 90 minuet fun that didn't take itself to seriously. Plus, you'll be laughing at the high-class, bitchy upscale-ness that these twelve year olds are trying to pull off.
This is a straight to DVD movie, but if you can see it on On Demand, like I did, get it there! That, or find a copy online, or rent it. It's really not worth the twenty dollars or so you'll be shelling out if you go out and buy it.
If you're a female under the age of eighteen, it's at least worth a try. Guys, not so much. In fact, that would be very, very creepy.
