Edit: Jesse McCartney is out, Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) is in, which is okay, i guess...

Many of us have seen the cast of the upcoming '
The Last Airbender' movie. The movie ,if you don't know, is based on a American cartoon, Avatar: The Last Airbender. In which, the characters; a monk who manipulates air, an Inuit girl who manipulates water, her brother ,who's a tribal warrior, and the antagonist ,who is the banished prince of the Firelord, who manipulates fire, and later (the second movie) a blind girl who manipulates earth. The show is based around them and their world of people who can 'bend' the elements, using various styles of Kung-fu.
Fans of the show know that the world is very Asian/ Inuit culturally based, from: clothes, to the writing, to the architecture. However, Paramount pictures has cast all Caucasian actors:
Jackson Rathbone( Twilight),
Noah Ringer,
Nicola Peltz, and
Jesse McCartney. One of the actors, Rathbone, in an interview with MTV said, about the contreversy; "I think it's one of those things where I pull my hair up, shave the sides, and I definitely need a tan," Which only enraged people more. You see if this show were based in Africa, this would be entirely different story, because most likely immediate outrage would form. However, for this movie not many people know or care. Is this saying, we can't reach equality or ,Asian people look just like white people or ,Asians aren't good enough for the big-screen?
It's not just Asian people who are angry either it's everyone who loves this show. In itself turning a medium such as cartoons/anime is bad enough( DRAGON BALL Z!) but, dragging in racism. I don't understand it really, people want to see their characters portrayed accurately, but Deedee Rickets, the casting director for the film, said "We want you to dress in traditional cultural ethnic attire," she said. "If you're Korean, wear a kimono. If you're from Belgium, wear lederhosen."Because, apparently they want diversity on an all-Asian/ Native American based show. I can see how they are afraid to be accused of racism ,but they are anyhow. (Note how: kimonos are Japanese and lederhosen are German.)
If they go ahead with the cast please have you, and your friends and family
NOT SEE this movie. Also anyone, who wishes for equality and wishes for kids of minorities, such as Asians, and Native-Americans, etc., etc. to be represented please send a RESPECTFUL letter to:
