I just sent out an email talking about the flooding in the Red River Valley area, what follows is the contents of that email:
Hey everybody here at Spill,
My name is Spid…….you know what, screw it,
its just John.
I’m about whore myself out here & maybe cross the lines of what is acceptable here on Spill, but I’m the only North Dakotan member I know of on Spill, so nobody else is going to do this & it is for a good cause, so I really don’t care.
I live in Grand Forks, which is in the Red River Valley area & as anybody whose been watching the news here in the States knows, large sections of the valley are flooding right as I type this. To clarify, I’m not personally in harms way, all predictions so far have GF weathering this whole thing just fine (except for a few parts on the way south end of town) because we have a big old dike wall, but other parts of the Red River Valley on both the ND & Minnesotan border are not nearly as lucky. Fargo for instance (which is just 70 some miles south of GF), has parts of the city well under water.
What I am asking is simple, when & if in the coming days/weeks/months/whatever you see a donation bucket to help the people here in the Upper Midwest out, please drop in a few bucks. I know times are tight & you might not have much, but know that the people up here will really appreciate it. Some of these people aren’t going to have much to go back to, so anything you can give will help.
In ND we are getting doubly hit as both the Red River & the Little Missouri (which flows right through the middle of the greater Bismarck/Mandan area) are flooding.
I decided to write this here because of the great people on Spill, the loving & giving nature of the people I’ve met here has always impressed me. I a real believer in regular people helping out regular people, & we Spilldos seem to be that kind of folk.
I repeat, while I am personally fine (& going to help with sandbagging when I get the chance), parts of the Red River Valley are going to get messed up, bad.
If you can, please help out,
John
