Just this year I saw the remake of My Bloody Valentine 3D, but I had never seen the original 1981 version. My Bloody Valentine was/is your typical 80's slasher movie; trying to ride the coat tails at that time of 'Halloween' and 'Friday the 13th'. (both of which have gotten remakes as well) Before hearing about the 3D remake I had personally never heard of this movie before. I've seen a lot of horror movies so I'm not sure how this got under my radar. Is it considered in the horror movie community as a cult classic? The killer miner guy never got really huge like Jason, Michael, or even Freddy.
When I watched this version I didn't see an extreme difference between both films. Other then it's a Canadian film cause most of the actors have a slight accent and they mention Nova Scotia. The whole love triangle was there but wasn't as complicated story wise then the remakes. Obviously the ending is very predictable and you can figure out who the killer is in the first 15 minutes of the film, I know I did. Honestly there really isn't anything special about this movie that makes it stand out as a horror movie classic. (if it is called that?) I found it to be a bit dull and long winded, I just got tired with it and wanted it to hurry up with the ending. It's basically just the same as it's remake counterpart but without the 3D.
