I just got back from watching avatar in 3D(3D not mind-blowing but slightly better than my PC games), and I want to say it was a good and entertaining film. However, I have some questions. Even tho Cameron has never probably heard of the word "homoplasic" (silimar features in unrelated species.), he undoubtly gave his cat-elf-like (smurfs) aliens homoplasic traits with humans to get the audience to sympathize with them.
I know this is a fictional movie, and I'm not gonna poke holes in the questionable movie science all day but hollywood should do a little more research before they make up wacky creatures.
Evolutionary questions (I'm pre-med in college): Why the do the smurf navi (get it? navy blue. Cameron ur silly) have tails? Humans evolved from apes (we still are apes, get over it) and eventually Old-world monkeys with tails but we descended from the trees and lost our tails. Our bipedal gait and brains helped us conquer the world. So, why do these smurfs have tails? Bipeds dont need them and they're selected against. Why are they cats and not primates like us if they're bipeds and their chicks have boobs.
Another thing, the women smurfs have breast and the dudes have pecs but NO nipples(creepy). What, do the chicks have breasts but dont lactate to feed babies?! Are they pseudo-mammals?
Lastly, Cameron gave the smurfs too far-fetched and odd a color and made them glowy (twilight anyone. *puke*). They would be eaten by the many predators looking that.
You would have a better chance of making a man/chimp hybrid than a man/alien hybrid RC body.
Still Zoe Saldana is hot with or without CGI (small boobies tho lol.) The ending of the spill review had me lmfao.
Basic physics questions: Why in the hell do some rocks on "Pandora (get it. Pandora's box)" float in the damn air?
What does the rock the humans want provide fuel for?
Visuals: I just wasn't blew away with the effects(even with 3D). It looked like a high quality long video game cutscence. Sometimes the close-up on Saldana's smurf were beautiful but the mechs and normal shots of the smurf were mediocre at best.
Release: Why wasn't this a summer movie? I guess Cameron didn't think his decent film could be that stupidity Transformers 2.
Besides these gripes, I really enjoyed the movie. Spill crew tossed Cameron's salad enough.
Tell me when you guys think please.
