I think people nowadays hate both. I dunno, I think it's usually our fault that these monstrosities are this bad. There are some which are quite decent yet we hated it. Even I don't know why.
I think that we sit in a theater and wait for it to be bad. We want it to be bad so we can bitch about it, pick it apart. Of course with Bloodrayne and Doom I can't really blame the crowd. In protection of both these movies, both games were a linear and repetitive without much story or meaning so making a movie about them is incredibly hard. Hence, they never should have done them. Maybe the guys who made Crank and Crank 2 - High Voltage (bless the ground they walk on) could have done a crazy ass Doom movie but that's a 'what if'.
I talked with my friend about this and she laughed at me right in the face. 'Of course they can't make them!'
While they are some small pecks of light (X-Men Origins: Wolverine videogame, kicks ass) she is absolutely right.
I tried to think about why we hate them so much. Usually if we see a shitty movie we bitch about it a bit then we forget them (like the Wolverine movie) but the game movies usually stay so we bitch about them more and more.
This is because when we sit in we want something new and imaginitive and when we see some crap version of the game with actors we spit on it. But at the same time if they do something new and creative with it se spit it because we can't recognise the game and we say that they only trying to sell their movie with the title.
Of course with Prince of Persia and Bioshock looming on the horizon and the Devil May Cry movie announced on wikipedia.com, it's hard not to be hopeful. I just pray to God and everything Holy not to let them be shitty. PLEASE!
