Morons at the Movies: Well, Merry Fucking Christmas to you too, you ungreatful bitch.

I really didn’t expect to do this so soon, but for Christ’s sake, it had to happen. And on Christmas Eve, no less. And the way it happened was just so… insulting.

Here’s the set up.

An elderly woman came up to the Box Office and asked for three adult tickets and two kids this morning. A strange but common thing that happens at my theatre is that the seniors don’t believe there’s ever a senior ticket in the morning, so they often ask for adult tickets. Well, I rang up two adults, two kids, and a senior ticket as it was cheaper than what she originally asked for.

No more than five minutes later, the elderly woman came back to the window saying I gave her the wrong tickets. I explained to her that I saw three adults and two kids but she qualified for a senior ticket. She told me she didn’t want a senior ticket. I asked her if she was not going to the movie. She told me she was, but she didn’t ask for a senior ticket and demanded it be changed.

Here’s where it gets insulting.

As I was about to tell her that the senior ticket is cheaper, she cuts me off and demand that I give her what she ordered because what I gave her was wrong. How wrong? The way she said it made it sound like that she wanted to pay more, yes, pay more because she thought that was the right thing to do. Most seniors would and have complained about being charged the normal adult ticket price and demand to have the lesser of the two.

But she wanted to pay more for her ticket. I was cutting her a break, and she wanted to pay more.

And what makes this act of holiday generosity even more insulting to me is that the woman clearly is so old she should have an assistant with her! Her head couldn’t stop shaking, her voice was so soft and scratchy I could barely understand her, and she clearly can’t see a thing in the daylight as it took her forever to find her coin purse the first time she was at my window! I’m no doctor, but clearly this woman has some form of Parkinson’s!

Fuck it. I tried to be nice, but I guess being generous at the movies is something nobody expects to happen in this age.

*sigh* I feel your pain. I have to deal with unreasonable customers all the time, and I mostly grin and (try to) swallow my aggression. However when they start bitching about high prices, I have little sympathy, especially when they get snippy. I merely smile and say "Sorry, but that's our paycheck." And they don't like that...

Fuck old people, and I'm half way or more from there. Last year on the 25th we went to see Benjamin Button, there were probably 20 people in the theater and it was fairly quiet. Half way through an older couple in their 70's to 80's sat down directly in front of us, even with a mostly empty theater. They began talking loudly, I asked them to be quiet, then a couple of minutes later they started again. This time I told them it was quiet until they got there and called them rude fuckers. They were again quiet for a while, and I told them to shut the hell up once more. I was waiting for another time, because I was going to kick the hell out of their chair. On the way out I asked the manager if it was common practice to let people in half way through a movie, he said if they buy their ticket. I am sure they were there for the next screening, because they stayed after the credits. I didn't get anyone, because I didn't want to miss any of the movie. So I say Fuck old people!

maybe she just did like the fact that you insinuated her age. she may have not been a senior citizen and you might have insulted her.

Zeek

Try dealing with these people on the phone all day long. They find the littlest thing to complain about and going out of your way to help them almost always goes unnotticed.

Zeek, i feel your pain, but let it go. That woman missed your generousity at her loss not yours. You honored her, and she didn't or couldn't reconize it. Keep the holiday spirit for yourself, not for those who can't or won't recognize it. You did the right thing, and I hug you for it. BIG HUG!!

I don't think you're over-reacting. People are just stupid and it's interesting hearing stories about their stupidity.
