More Superhero projects for Christopher Nolan to Consider
With the recent announcement that both Catwoman and Bane have been confirmed as the villains for next year’s The Dark Knight Rises, all my fears of seeing The Riddler or The Penguin in the next installment were erased and replaced by renewed and strengthened faith in director Christopher Nolan. Also, it got me thinking as to what other superhero films would be suitable for the man to direct. Here they are.
Superman
Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns was NOT the Superman movie this generation deserved. Personally, I thought it was a really bad decision to make it a sequel to Superman ll instead of an origin story. That, however, was the least of the film’s problems. But I won’t get into that right now. Superman needs to be recreated in film for the new millennium, and what better man for the job than Nolan! True, the man of steel isn’t nearly as dark of a character as the other superheroes listed here, but who says he has to limit himself to antiheroes? Another point, he recreated Batman’s arch-nemesis The Joker in a fantastic, brilliant way, and I’m very curious indeed to see if he can do the same with Superman’s, Lex Luthor.
Even if we can get the man onto the director’s chair, obviously it won’t be for awhile. In the meantime, though, I take comfort in the fact that he’s at least producing the upcoming *shudder* Zack Snyder Superman film.
DareDevil
I’m probably one of the very few people on Spill, and the planet, who really loved 2003’s DareDevil. As corny, overblown, and downright dumb as it was, there hadn’t been many superhero movies at the time and my dumbass 12-year-old ‘mind’ was blown away. Now, however, I’m older, slightly smarter, and realize that DareDevil is waaaaaaay too cool of a superhero to have such a silly little movie (I still like the movie, though. See what I mean by slightly smarter?)
A DareDevil sequel or reboot would be right up Nolan’s alley: he’s got a murdered father, a stoic demeanor, an old-man-confidant, and a talented, psychotic villain, Bullseye. Marvel’s had quite a few success stories over the years with its movies, but if it wants to achieve Dark Knight status with any one superhero, the man without fear is the one to go with.
Wolverine
As much as I love Wolverine and Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of him, the X-Men movies were always frustratingly over-saturated with other less interesting mutants, the same exact problem the TV shows had. That was a problem I thought would be rectified with X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Finally, a movie just about Wolverine and his mysterious origin but without having to see a bunch of lame-ass mutants with lame-ass powers. Cue laugh track.
In Nolan’s hands, though, I’m sure it would be something else entirely. We’ve already seen how well the actor and director worked together on The Prestige, and Nolan obviously has ways of making the most outlandish of characters come to life realistically. Put those two elements together and what’ve you got? Hopefully, a film that no one in their right mind would ever put on a Bottom Five List. Aronofsky: EPIC FAIL!!
Watchmen
Finally, we have Alan Moore’s graphic novel masterpiece Watchmen. Could there be a more perfect comic-book-to-silver-screen adaptation for Nolan to tackle? And I’m sorry, but I have to aggressively, no, violently, disagree with anyone who was satisfied with the 2009 film. The only good thing about Snyder’s version was seeing Malin Akerman in her pseudo-dominatrix outfit. At least my eyes were happy.
All the elements and themes that attracted fans to The Dark Knight are present here: insanity, complex morality issues, the taking of an ideal to an extreme level and the destruction of that ideal through a painful but necessary compromise. And you wouldn’t even need slo-mo. Who watches the Watchmen? Me, if Nolan’s behind it. Or if you can put Akerman in even less clothing. Just sayin’…

Well at least he wont be dealing with a complex project like Watchmen. But then again, it doesnt take a lot to screw up Superman. just look at the last three films.

Nolan appears to be a fan of batman, which is why he may have chosen that project to begin with. Also it matches his style.
out of everything on this list Superman seems to be the only other one he'd do, and to me, only because there were rumors that he would do it. But I doubt he would make anything comic book related after Batman.
Personally, Im sick of seeing movies about Wolverine. Especially when the X-men series turned from an ensemble piece to The Wolverine show. Why are there going to be five movies on Wolverine but still no movie about Deadpool?
And Watchmen? Really? it makes for a better comic than a movie. There's just so much depth to it, and elments that are next to impossible to capture on film and still retain its entertainment value. Chances are it will be like Snyder's Watchmen where 50% will be satisfied and the other 50% will be fuming about it
But Daredevil does need a reboot. I just dont think Nolan is right for the job..anyway, thats my two cents...

I would love for someone like David Fincher too do Daredevil someday. I love the character but hated that god awful film in 2003 (directors cut was better but not good, sorry). I would even consider Ben Affleck to write or direct the film as well. I don't know. Daredevil deserves justice, one way or the other.

First, just because Nolan did great with the Batman franchise doesn't mean he'd do great with any others.
Second, lets actually wait to see Superman and Wolverine before we ask for more reboots.
Third, if we have one director doing other superhero films there won't be much variety.
Fourth, the Watchmen should still be a six part mini-series on HBO or AMC or any other channel like those.

the director's cut of daredevil was pretty fucking good. im tired of wolverine i have been since the second x-man movie which should have just been called wolverine and the x-men because he was the main focus of all three they should have grounded the franchise with a different character each movie. watchmen i really don't care about its so hyped up anybody that touches that material will be crucified by 85% of the people that read the comic. as for superman he is a producer on the reboot.

I'd like to see Nolan go back to doing low budget thrillers like Following, Memento, or Insomnia. As much as I love TDK and Inception, it would be interesting.

I think the reason people like Nolan so much, especially on this site, is that he makes good superhero movies, when traditionally, superhero movies are pieces of shit. For every The Dark Knight, There's Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Elektra, Hulk, Wolverine, Catwoman, The Fantastic Four, every Punisher ever... I could go on. There's like 2 great superhero films, a handful of decent ones, and a whole dump filled with crap.
And this is a site that loves superheros.
That being said, I don't think the solution is to get Nolan to direct everything. I think the solution is to not go see a film just because a hero you love is in it. I bet out of all the shit films I listed, all of you have seen a majority of them, stop doing that! If Hollywood sees that we want engaging, well crafted superhero movies and refuse to see piece of shit money grabs, we have to actually do that. Or we could ignore this and go see another Fantastic Four sequel, it's completely up to us.

i'll do ya one better- How about he does a Power rangers reboot
with all fairness, Daredevil, Wolverine and Watchmen are already done and too close to his work on the Batman Franchise to see him truly take on a challenge that he hasn't done before. And i dont need another Watchmen because the movie was fine and it would be too soon to do anther one.
Superman would be the ideal challenge for him and i think that it would be interesting to see him make Superman comtemporary the same way he made batman contemporary and modern.
Other than superman i would say wonder woman just to get the set and im being sarcastic.
i rather see him do live action anime adaptations and video game adaptations along with his own original ideas.
