Randy "The Ram" Robinson is heading to
WrestleMania 25...that is being
Mickey Rourke.

Before I get into it, I have a little story to tell you guys. While
The Wrestler was getting all the hype,
Vince McMahon(Chairman of
WWE) asked
Darren Aronofsky for a private screening of the movie. At the end, of course,
Vince ended up hating the film and told off
Aronofsky straight in the face. Whatever he told
Aronofsky will always remain a mystery. But now with the attention that the movie has been getting, and the awards it's getting,
Vince McMahon has decided to jump on the bandwagon and help promote the movie.
Being a wrestling fan myself, I tend to go to wrestling sites every now and then to get backstage info. So when I read this, I though I was a bit too high or drunk.
WWE (or rather, Vince McMahon) have done a complete turnaround on their stance regarding The Wrestler ever since lead actor Mickey Rourke won a Golden Globe and got an Oscar nomination for his role in the film. On last night's SmackDown, they ran a video promoting the movie, and on the company website they have another video regarding the film with Ric Flair, Lilian Garcia and Mark Henry offering their thoughts on it (you can see the video at this link). WWE changed their stance to ride the wave of success of the movie through WrestleMania in hopes of getting mainstream attention. Also, there has been internal talk of doing something with Rourke at WrestleMania.
At first, I said to myself "That would never happened. I don't think
Mick would be that stupid enough, and pull an
Eddie Murphy(
*cough*Norbit*cough*) at this time during award season".
But then I read a story by another wrestling site, and
Rourke told
E! during the pre-show of the
SAG Awards, that he's working on some with the
WWE, and might head to Houston on April.
During the E! pre-show for the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Mickey Rourke was interviewed about his role in the film, The Wrestler. While describing the wrestling industry as supportive, Rourke also said, "It looks like I'm going to Houston for Wrestlemania. Chris Jericho, I'm comin' after your ass".
So it's official. Mark your calenders because
Randy "The Ram" will be on the
WrestleMania line-up. For those of you who aren't familiar with wrestling,
WrestleMania is like the
SuperBowl of all wrestling pay-per-views. It's being said right now (as you read), that Mickey will wrestle
Chris Jericho.
Normally, I would call him stupid for causing his chances at the oscars; but I could care less now since the oscars can go F#@K thenselves(I'm still bitter about the "
The Dark Knight" snub). I think it's awesome that he's doing this. He's already well loved by the wrestling community, and the wrestling fans. Yeah, I still love wrestiling and I don't think it's going to hurt
Mick's career as much as you think it will. But hey, what can you do??? Really??? Wrestling is a terrible guilt of pleasure.
Though, you have got to give it up to
Vince here. He went from not liking the film, to deciding on promoting a movie that, not only does he hates, but that takes a jab at his own company. I can't believe i'm going to say this, and will never forgive myself for this but....
"
Vince McMahon is the, absolute, one of the greatest buissness man ever"
Vintage Vince!!! Vintage!!!
Might not be about comics, but it's sure as hell an interesting story to read. I hope
Mick give
Chris Jericho the
"RAM JAM". I'm as sure as hell going to order it.
