Mickey Rourke And Rosario Dawson Returning For 'Sin City 2'

Remember when Robert Rodriguez told us we'd be getting a 'Sin City' sequel? This was right after the release of the first film based on the graphic novel series by Frank Miller. For years it seemed a promise that would go unfulfilled, but then just a few days ago, the official announcement came down from Dimension that 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' was going into production. With casting in full effect, Rodriguez revealed during an interview that two of the original film's principal actors are already on board for the sequel: Mickey Rourke ('Iron Man 2') and Rosario Dawson ('Unstoppable') Here's what he had to say...

"[Rourke is] all excited to come back, but he's probably the first one. I saw Rosario [Dawson] too. I ran into her for something else, and she's pumped. They've always been excited about doing another one, so that will be fun."

So there you have it, at least two of the original members of the band are returning, now we just have about a dozen more to confirm, right? Whether you love or hate Robert Rodriguez's 'Sin City,' it should be noted that Mickey Rourke's performance, as the goon extraordinaire Marv, is outstanding. I haven't read 'A Dame to Kill For,' but I don't think it's making a huge logical leap to assume that the plot will have to focus on events that took place prior to his 'Hard Goodbye' storyline featured in the first film. As to Rosario Dawson, I've heard her character is pretty crucial to 'A Dame to Kill For,' which is awesome. I was hoping to see more of her character in the sequel and it looks like I just might get my wish. I'm not sure I ever doubted that these two actors would return. It'll be far more interesting to see what new blood gets added to the mix as the casting process continues. What do you guys think?

Are you excited to see these two return? Without spoiling too much, can our well-read Spillios tell us a bit about 'A Dame to Kill For?'

Here's all you need to know about A Dame To Kill For: It was the second published Sin City story by Frank Miller, and the first one to be published as a self-contained, stand-alone miniseries. It ran six issues. The story featured the first printed appearances of Dwight, Gail and Manute (played by Clive Owen, Rossario Dawson, and Michael Clarke Duncan, respectively). Marv is a minor character in the movie, making a brief, but significant, appearance before going back to his quest to avenge Goldie's murder.

The Big Fat Kill, the Tarantino directed second feature of the Sin City movie, was a direct sequel in the comics to A Dame To Kill For.

The only qualm I have with the movie is its potential running time. Sin City, as a movie, adapted 3 of Miller's stories, each one of similar length to A Dame To Kill For. Either this means the movie will have to slow it's pace, pad out its timing, or be supplemented with other stories like our first movie was. The Sin City comics Family Values and The Babe Wore Red featured this same cast of characters, so maybe those stories will be added to this one to make this feature length. Time will tell.

Am I the only one who thought Mickey Rourke was dead?

Loved Rourke as Marv.

@ Carlo Von Sexron: I agree, it's both necessary for Clive Owen to be in this movie (if it is going to be taken seriously as a faithful "A Dame to Kill for" interpretation), AND nearly impossible to have Owen in most of the film, as he doesn't have the "Clive Owen" face until the last act.  Perhaps they could Yul Brenner-ise Clive in the first two thirds, but that runs the risk of looking cheesy...

"The hard goodbye" and "That yellow bastard" are my favorite comics from sin city, I wonder how the sequel will turn out to be, but at least I am glad Rourke will appear again, Rosario Dawson, just meehhh.

Many of the Sin City stories take place in different points in time, going forward and back, referencing each other.

@Mike Brown.

The storyline for the film is A Dame to Kill for. It is set before The Big Fat Kill and The Hard Goodbye

As long as I don't have to put up with Jessica Alba's 'acting' I'm all for it.

I especially want to see more Benicio Del Toro but I haven't read the comics so I have no idea how much of the series he's in. He stole the show for me in the first movie but it was a particular scene in the car.

And it wasn't directed by Robert. It was Tarantino.

Tarantino has a brilliant way of making his actors shine and creating an atmosphere. That was the only scene I really enjoyed, Del Toro blew me away, it was amazing, the rest just felt hollow to be honest and I later found out while watching the behind the scenes that he had directed it.

Tarantino should direct these movies. Tarantino really gets the best out of his actors which needed because everything is green screen and sometimes the actors aren't even together in a scene where they're having a conversation. And I think Murphy would have been MUCH btter if he had directed her scenes too. I've see Girl interuppted several times so I know she was an amazing actress, but her performance in sin city was terrible.
