Naomie Harris ('Pirates of the Caribbean', '28 Days Later') may be just the right woman to turn down James Bond. Reports say that the gorgeous 34-year old actress has been meeting with director Sam Mendes for the role of Miss Jane Moneypenny - secretary to British Secret Service head M and oft recipient of Bond's blatant flirtations - in the upcoming film, tentatively dubbed 'Bond 23'.
A witty foil to James Bond's testosterone-fueled bravado, Moneypenny has been a staple of nearly every James Bond film to date, always flirting with - but never consummating - their relationship. However, as with most elements of the revamped series, it's unknown as to whether this new version of the character will share the same personal dynamic as previous renditions, or whether Mendes will attempt to take it in a new direction.
Harris is the latest to be attached to the project, with rumors of 'No Country for Old Men' actor Javier Bardem being in the running for the main villain, and Ralph Fiennes rumored to appear as an unnamed character. Once again starring Daniel Craig as Agent 007, 'Bond 23' is scheduled to premiere November 9th, 2012.

Well to be fair, both Q and Moneypenny are both superficial characters in the sense that Q is only in the story to give Bond the EXACT weapons he'll need in the mission and Moneypenny is there to remind the viewer how charming Bond is, so I was very happy when Casino Royale decided to cut them out completely Instead they replaced her with Lynd who provides a function in the story and is an interesting character. Hell even M was more than a bland one dimensional character who was given more to do than give Bond his mission.
In my opinion, it's only worth putting Q and/or Moneypenny in the movie as long as they have some story function.

Comment by Gift of the Magi on July 12, 2011 at 10:00pm Well, why the hell not? Moneypenny doesn't require any good acting or massive screen time...she just acts as a plot device so Bond can be charming and flirty without scoring. If they make her a bit more tough and 'fuck off, Bond' so as NOT to be a love or sex interest, then ALL THE BETTER.
You wanna make her even MORE interesting? Make her a lesbian and have her steal Bond's girl with that smirk on her face at the end of the film.

Naomie Harris is so damned hot. I approve...
but nevertheless I am a little bummed... Why? Because Moneypenny isn't the one who's usually seen in skimpy little outfits. Sad face.
