Matthew McConaughey Joins Scorsese's 'The Wolf of Wall Street'

The cast for Martin Scorsese's upcoming film 'The Wolf of Wall Street' is getting so massive and formidable that it's almost comical. The film, based on the memoir by Jordan Belfort, tells the tale of a less-than-upstanding stock broker and charts his rise as well as fall; Belfort's book adapted for the screen by Terence Winter ('The Sopranos'). So far, the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, as Belfort, and features a supporting cast that includes; Jean Dujardin ('The Artist'), Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler, and Jon Favreau. Now you can add Matthew McConaughey's name to that ever-expanding list. McConaughey will play Mark Hanna, a man who served as a mentor to Belfort early in his career. The film is expected to hit theaters sometime next year.

I am very happy to hear this. There are plenty of people who harbor dislike of McConaughey either because they think him dull or they have the sour taste of his rom-com work lingering in their mouths. Personally, I think the guy is a tremendous actor when paired with the right director. His turn in William Friedkin's 'Killer Joe' was spectacular and I even liked how unhinged and charming he was in Steven Soderbergh's 'Magic Mike.' He was perfect for that role. I'm not sure you can ask for a better director than Martin Scorsese so I have no doubt he'll give a fantastic performance. Plus, the guy has proven time and time again that the unscrupulous mentor character is one he plays quite well; 'Magic Mike,' 'Tropic Thunder,' all the way back to 'Dazed and Confused.' This seems an apt fit for Mr. McConaughey.

What do you guys think? Are you excited Matthew McConaughey is joining the cast? Will you see 'The Wolf of Wall Street?'

Chemistry of a cast involving Matthew McConaughey, Jonah Hill, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jon Bernthal?  Being directed by the legendary Scorsese?  I'm in!

It's Martin Scorsese, he has my complete and utter faith.

Gonna wait and see what kind of reception the film gets.  Scorcese is pretty damn solid, so no real worries there, and I kind of dig McConaughey as an actor, but I am not too excited for a film about financial shit.

"Say man, you got a joint?"

"No, not on me."

"Be a lot cooler if you did.  Haha."

I'm cool with this choice. Still not sure if I will go see the movie.

It looks like Mr. McConaughey has hired a new (and much better) agent.

So far Scorsese can do no wrong so do we even have to worry if this film will be good?

He's had a good year. He was great in Burnie and Magic Mike. Has anyone seen Burnie?

@Joanne, the dude knows how to play the shit out of a lawyer: A Time to Kill (his best performance), Amistad, and The Lincoln Lawyer. A very slept on actor.
@Dorian Gray it sounds good to me as well homie.

I really liked McConaughey's performance in 'A Time to Kill'. He's a good actor, but unfortunately does pick some questionable films most times.
